While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Navy Gateway Questions
Hey Everyone!
I was hoping I could get some advice about staying at the Navy Gateway during PIR. My husband (the recruit graduating) is staying in Great Lakes for A school afterwards. I know that after he signs into A school that he supposedly isn't allowed to visit the Navy Gateway but that he can request chit. How does he request this? is there anything I need to do? If he does request this, is it reliable that it will actually go through? I would just be so disappointed if a chose to stay there and we didn't have anywhere to relax together.
Also, his parents are driving me but since they don't have military ID's I don't think they can stay. However, are they going to be able to come pick me up in their car if the hotel is on base? If they can't pick me up, do they have a shuttle service to take me to PIR?

I stayed at the Gateway and loved it. My son stayed in Great Lakes for A school. I highly recommend anyone that has a SR staying in great lakes to stay there. You can walk to their ship to sign them out and you will be able to see where everything on base. It was very nice. They will get a few hours with your SR on Friday Be sure he remembers where is ship is. My son was worried about finding his room and getting into trouble. But the next morning he can sleep in and call you when he is ready to be signed out. All you do is walk over to his ship and sign him out and then he can go back to the hotel with you and you have him till 10pm that night. Same on Sunday but I think that they need to be back a little earlier on Sunday.

They do not have a shuttle but you are just right around the corner from the gate you need to go to. Please go to Sarges Meet and Greet. Lots of fun and you learn a lot that you need to know for PIR.
His parents do not need military ID's. They can stay at the hotel but make sure they get clearance with the hotel. It does take a couple of weeks. The rates are much cheaper there and our get more time with your SR. Just my opinion from staying there.

the rooms are nice and depending on what side of the hotel you are on you will have a view of the lake. :)
