MamaC, go with him to the airport my son was disappointed too, but loved me and his Fiancée going to the airport.  again we only got a few hours sleep once we dropped him off at the base the night before and came back and got ready for bed, only 3 hours sleep but I sooo enjoyed it.
Thanks TxLadyJane - I know it will be hard on all of us, but I wouldn't miss it for the world.  Once we know his actual departure time we'll make plans to meet him at the airport.  I'm assuming they all fly out of Midway?  That seems to be what I'm seeing here on N4M's.
They fly out of which ever airport the USN sends them. Some Midway, some Ohara, some even though Milwaukee.
Hey anyone one visiting Great Lakes?  The best way to go to Chicago and back is through the bus service! lol and it's cheap!  www.navytourchicago.com

good information!

can we take there cellphone laptop and ipod to the airport for them to take to school

decarp:

YOUR new Sailor will get a brief on what his particular A School will allow him to take with him, in most cases its ok for them to have a cell, laptop and ipod.  Yes you can take it to the Airport.  But be aware that it will be best if you can find a "plain black pack pack and/or brief case style carry bag" with no logos or "other colors" how ever small that might be.  We found one at the Main Navy Exchange while we were there at Great Lakes.  Don't dismay if you can't find one that is all black, they can still have one, they will just have to carry it in their hands and not wear as a pack pack or over their shoulder.

thank you  so much txladyjane
The Oakley kiosk at O'Hare sold plain black backpacks. Ask if you don't see them. They were about $65--cheaper to find it at Walmart by Great Lakes (we forgot)
And even cheaper at the NEX while on Base.
So if I understand then I can bring my sons cell phone, ipod and laptop to PIR and give to him to take to A school as long as it is in a black back pack? I will not be going to the ariport.
That is correct. Have fun tomorrow!!
