My son leaves June 4, 2013 for boot camp and I need to make flight arrangements for PIR but he doesn't know when it will be. How do you know the actual dates?

Thanks!

I don't think you will know until after your son gets there and you receive the form letter with that information.

Don't worry about booking a flight yet. You won't know until the form letter. Plus sometimes they get held for unforeseen reasons. Where ya from is planning a drive out of the question? Best guess would be that it will be the first or second Friday in Aug if all goes smooth. Enjoy your last 30 some days with your sailor at home. Get all your ducks in order. Before my son left one thing I did for my piece of mind was the power of attorneys both medical and regular. I'll be dammed if someone else is going to make choices when they don't know him. And the regular one has come In handy a few times for dealing with his bank. Also we had discussed before he left about me being added to his Navy Federal account once he opened it. I was able to do that because of the papers. My hubby is primary and me secondary. Also put together important addresses and phone numbers to put in his wallet. Kids today don't know phone numbers. Btw my son is 3 years in and has been overseas for a year and now on ship deployment. It's a great ride. Thank your son.

Thank you for that information  My son also leave's on June 4th.  How you you do the power of attorney for both medical and regular,  do I need an attorney for that?

No, you do not need an attorney. Check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

To guesstimate the PIR date, count 9 Fridays from the date of arrival to get the most likely PIR date, 08/02/2013, and then know that it can be the week before, 07/26/2013, if he fills a division from the week before, which can happen for one arriving on a Monday or a Tuesday as yours will, or the week after, but that is less likely for one arriving at the beginning of the week as your future Sailor will be. You cannot make plans until you receive the form letter with the PIR date, which typically arrives around 10 days after his arrival at BC. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will give you more on that. I invite you to join that group while you are there and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well.

Thanks for info everyone! I have to fly there for PIR and the earlier I can buy a flight, the cheaper it is usually. :)

Unfortunately, you have to wait on the form letter before you can make plans. Saving Money PIR Weekend and PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) may hep you when the time comes.

What will his rating (job/specialty) be?
