Here is a letter that i sent to my daughter and shared with the parents on this site.

January 6, 2016

Hey lil sailor girl, I have to tell you that it broke my heart when you called because I could hear the disappointment in your voice and I know you were trying to stay strong for me but it’s OK. I know you apologized to me but you have nothing to apologize for my dear and never apologize for doing your very best. Look at this as a minor setback or as a test of your will power. Work on healing those knees so that you can complete your PFA and participate in BS21.  I have faith in you and as long as you have faith in yourself you will come out on top. You will get through this, just pray and leave it up to GOD.

Try not to stress about this, Daddy always says, you can’t worry about something that you can’t control. I always hated when he said this to me but he’s absolutely right, if you can’t do anything about your knees being swollen, you worry because you don’t know what’s wrong but no need to stress if you can’t do anything about it. Let the doctor’s work on you and tell you what you need to do in order to get better.

I have all of the mom’s on the Navy for Mom’s and the PIR group praying for you. They are all your new aunties and sending their prayers so that God can get you through this rough patch. Don’t rush it, take the time that is allowed to you so you can get back up then hit the ground running toward that finish line. The best thing about this is that we are only an hour away and you know I’m always at the PX and we’re only a letter and a phone call away and I’m very familiar with the toll roads so what I’m saying is that we are not never far from each other to say I love you and I’m never going to be far away to send encouraging words.

I brought you this book and will give it to you when you graduate. It’s by Dr. Seuss called “Oh the places you’ll go”. I brought Dominique one too. Yes I said Dr. Seuss but it’s a book that one of the mom’s recommended on the sites that I’m on and it’s for big kids like you who are starting their life in the big world. Since you are not allowed to have such items, here are some of the quotes from the book that will help you get through being in RCU and will hopefully help the time pass while you’re healing.

Oh the places you’ll go, today is your day, and your mountain is waiting so get on your way.

You have brain in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own, and you know what you know and you are the one who’ll decided where to go.

Oh the places you’ll go, there is fun to be done, there are points to be scored there are games to be won and the magical things that you can do with that ball will make you the winner of all?

Wherever you fly, you’ll be best of the best, wherever you go, you will top all of the rest.

Oh the places you’ll go, you’ll be on your way up, you’ll be seeing great sights, and you’ll join the high fliers who soar to high heights.

And you will succeed, yes, you will indeed, Kid, you’ll move mountains.

Jazz hold your head up high and tough your way through this because remember “YOU GO THE JUICE”.

Grab your pocket bible and start reading. You will feel much better afterwards.

To KC'smom and Patrice -  Love the stories and suggestions (really loved the crossword puzzle link).  She's strong and stubborn, so in this case those should work in her favor :)   I'm going to print off and share your stories with our girl !!

FYI I started this group bc I was freaking out & didn't know what to do & was hoping to find other moms to talk to. There was one young woman there for NINE MONTHS recovering from a spiral fracture of the Tibia!! And she went on to graduate!! Tell her she can do it too!!

My son was there for an extra 6-8 weeks too. He was so upset. I had people sending him cards to be basically got mail every single day to encourage him. Even if I only wrote 3 lines, he had something to open as it is VERY BORING there. The entire elementary school made him cards ( his younger siblings were still in elementary school ) and I sent them out like 2-3 at a time. They were hysterical. The teachers were able to have the kids do it during school time bc it was some kind of community service ( encouraging a service member ). If you have any ties to any schools I highly recommend that as kids say the cutest things plus draw the FUNNIEST pictures. I live right by an army base so a lot of the kids wrote about their moms or dads being away too. Don't send anything that can't be thrown away if needed. They won't have any room to pack it on the way to A school. Here's another plus to staying longer.... My son was required to go to water therapy. Turns out the instructor was an ex-Navy diver and he taught my son swimming techniques and diving techniques and breath holding techniques while they were in the water. ( it was slow when he was there ). Well all those skills seriously paid off bc when he went to Aircrew Candidate School in Florida he did amazing & passed all tests flawlessly. I honestly believe all things happen for a reason. I assumed it was Gods plan for him to miss his first graduation date & there was some reason he ended up graduating 8 weeks later! So... Let her know my boys experience & send LOTS of mail!!

My daughter wanted updates on all of her reality TV shows and other shows like how to get away with murder, scandal and those Tyler Perry shows so i would send her updates like that. I also sent crossword puzzles and i made some using this link, printed and sent them http://www.education.com/worksheet-generator/reading/crossword-puzz.... I wasn't able to send any books as she told me they had books on the shelf. I also sent just encouraging letters and bible verses that helped her get through.

Patrice --- Thanks so much for sharing your story with me!  It's wonderful to hear success stories.  What kind of reading materials were you able to send?

Comment by Patrice on May 12, 2016 at 12:01pm

I don't know the exact address to RCU anymore but if I find it, i will definitely send it to you. My daughter was in boot camp for 136 days. She hurt herself right before battle station and had to go to RCU. Her original graduation date was suppose to be January 8 but she didn't leave GL until 4/1/16. She had 3 stress fractures and shin splints but she finally finished and went on to A school and just finished on Tuesday and will be home on tomorrow. Cocoloco2, hang it there, I know it's hard but just like my daughter, your's will be alright. Stress fractures takes time to heal so please don't get discouraged but it can happen but just send her encouraging words, cross word puzzles, pictures printed on paper and reading material and just pray for her. I did get to talk to my daughter every Sunday and was glad to get that call.

Just got the dreaded call last night.  Our daughter is headed to the RCU with a stress fracture in her ankle.    Does anyone know if we can send books to them to help pass the time.  Are there other things that are OK to send?  We're trying to stay positive and keep her positive too :)

Does anybody have the address for RCU? In the quick call we got from our son he didn't give us the address.
