hi to all!  Dubious news-- got permission this am to participate in the Big E from the Lt Commdr;  Cannot participate due to hospitalization. Thus, anyone who has baked--please send your cookies to your service member, freeze for a future packing party (yes, lets get one off the ground before the holidays...), share with your fam (ah, remember Hazel could save the workd with a coconut macaroon!) and thank you all once again. We will be winter planners for Fleet week Boston 2012 and hope for a positive and helpful presence. God Bless all of service members--we know what they do!     ps my son is on the GDUBB, they eat any and all things sent, so if at a loss, em me and ill send you addresses. They are forward based in Atsughi Japan.  thanks ladies!  patty

Meanwhile, have cookies baking for the active military that stop by and lots of cards and beanies compliments of ProudNavy/ NYPD. So looking forward to representing some Mom care out there to our Navy! More to follow!  yours, patty

Hi Everyone!

I got an email from a N4M Mom in FL.  Her sister just flew back after a visit to New England. She went to The Big E and said it was just incredible.  Bigger than ever & lots and lots of people.

Anyone else want to jump in and help Patty?  Let her know.  I'm the helper this time around, she's the one in charge.  I'm willing to drive (actually my husband is doing the driving for me) but I can take 2 comfortably, 3 if you want to squeeze in the back.  Let me know and we can arrange to meet somewhere.

HI All!  I am now getting very  excited for our presence at the BIg E! I have spoken with ProudNavy/nypd and we will meet for card exchange mid week or so next week near attleboro.  The plan is a table, saturday, open to close, for public to sign cards, adopt beanies and if active military, enjoy a homemade cookie. My nieces are going to help me and will use the vol opportunity for comm service hours. Waiting to hear back from the LT CDR. Bowe on logistics for table.  It should be fun--please join us if you are in the area, assist or just chat, bake, sign, whatever!  I think the number of active sailors stopping by our table might have gone up a notch or two now that i have recruited two youthful assistants! HAHA!  Hope all are well, I will take notes so we can launch a larger presence at Navy Week in Boston next July--we have the cold drab winter months to brainstorm that!  Go Navy!

HI all    Donna, feel free to repost anything I.ve sent. I think we can make a show for Saturday; hate to let a chance for well wishes for troops get away!

@ Patty, would you mind if I reposted your comment on the MA Navy Moms' page?  I am hoping it gets some response.

I was also thinking that another place we could possibly get some volunteers would be to call the local high school and find out if their Nat'l Honor Society students might be looking for some community service for their college applications.  After all, helping Navy Moms at the Big E by manning a table for cards and/or letters to deployed and wounded military personnel is something different to make them stand out.

hi all-- Proud Navy/NYPd-- I sent you a mess to your own page with phone number; I am willing and able to do a day solo or with you or others, and ferret it out for next year at the same time. Thank you for the card "precautions" into--wow, didnt even think of that, being a newbie.  Ladies who have sons home, please spend the all too precious time with them, ditto for those saying good bye; I am thinking that Sat might draw the biggest crowds at the BigE so maybe we concentrate on that day?  im flex and open to ideas. If others cant go, I will, but perhaps can meet to obtain some cards before that date. I will need mailing info too, for the cards, such as who and how one sends them and to what units, etc. Want to maximize any service members getting a thought that we can!  thanks again, patty

Thanks for reminding me and any others who have people write cards.  Yes, I absolutely always review each and every card!  Over the course of several years now I have had to remove 2-4.  The odd thing (for me) is that it is usually when 11-13 yr olds write something that I have to closely check them.  I like to think it is because they aren't fully accomplished in putting their thoughts into words yet, but sometimes I have to wonder if it comes from their family's way of thinking regarding our military!  So no worries there.

I wish you both (Jean & Sailor's MIL) could come to Springfield.  I do have info on next year's event, but I'll hold it until we decide what we can and cannot do this year.  Don't want to muddy the waters if someone should jump into the conversation here.  Perhaps we should make it a discussion -- Navy Week 2012??  What do you think?  Also, perhaps a couple of us should join the other New England states' mom groups and see if any others would like to be involved??

Patty thanks for stepping up.  I will make some calls to some of the MA Moms (since they haven't responded to the comment - not unusual tho).  I'm going to send you a friend request so that I can get my phone number to you so we can talk through some ideas.  I have to run 2 quick errands in the AM and have a doc appt. at 5P.  Are you a working Mom?  When would be the best time to call you?

Are there any more RI Moms interested?  I live in Plainville and wouldn't mind driving to Springfield so anyone who would like to go but not drive -- let me know OK?

I think we should try to have a table; yes.  I do live a distance, so I would plan to make a day of it; can cover the thurs table or the Saturday table, tho might need more people on  Sat. Havent been to the Big E in years, but my mom lives in East Hartford, so can grab some rest stop luxuries en route there if needed.Wait to hear more..
