Hi Everyone!! Just got back from NY and seeing our son, DIL, & of course the g'baby!! Had so much fun I hated coming back. Oh well, ... back to reality.
I had 2 messages on my answering machine from the officer in charge of Navy Week at the Big E in Springfield, MA. I have to get back to her very soon. BUT, she & her CO want to know if we want a table at the Big E for MA Navy Moms, RI Navy Moms and Molly's Adopt A Sailor?
So, do we?? It would be a great opportunity, but frankly I'm not up to doing it on my own. I have boxes of donated cards we can use to have people sign and send notes on. I also have some Beanie Babies which Special Hugs uses for the wounded, other Moms have had Beanie Babies for people to "adopt" (for a donation) and send a special message. If anyone is willing to help out in some way, please let me know right away.
The dates are 9/29 (Thurs.) - 10/2 (Sun.).
Anyone interested in being part of this? Maybe some of you live within easy driving distance of Springfield. I have a Navy Mom from that area that is willing to let us park at her house and we can carpool from there and not have to pay so much to park a bunch of cars.
Please let me know ASAP, so I can answer the Lt. Cmdr.
Thanks Ladies!
@Patty -- sorry you missed the MA parties, but maybe you'd like to hold one?? I'd be happy to help you, just let me know.
Donna
There's also been mention about having a packing party in RI ... Just curious, do we have 3 or 4 Moms who would want to make up a party? MA's parties are often that small & we have a great time regardless. Remember you can always invite family, friends, neighbors & co-workers to join in. They do NOT have to be Navy Moms to get involved.
Also do NOT forget, shipping is paid for all packages which are assembled by a packing party!!! So all you need to worry about is collecting/gathering or buying items to fill the boxes.
Let me know. I promised Lois I would help by getting paperwork together and helping with working on getting some publicity, but we are going to run out of time if we don't get moving on this.
I've received the donation to go and buy material for our sewing benefit on Aug. 21. Really excited to be able to go and pick some fabrics for US!! The manager said she would start cutting fabric for us, but I wanted to have a bigger part in choosing the fabric since Molly's is paying for it.
If you haven't RSVP'd to this event, please take a minute to do so. You'll find it under the "Events" tab at the top of the page.
I'm sorry to have missed brunch yesterday. I had a secret I wanted to share, so I will just do it now.
Several weeks ago I received a phone call asking me to be "Molly's Adopt A Sailor's Mom of the Month." Obviously, my answer was yes. BUT I want you to understand, I don't think of this as an honor for me, I accepted because I consider it an honor for all the individuals/small groups in New England that send packages to the troops.
The adoptees for August are the Shadowhawks (VAQ-141), an electronic attack squadron deployed with the USS George H W Bush. Check out the discussion in the Molly's Adopt A Sailor group.
Lois and I have been talking about the possibility of a packing party in RI. More info will come from her regarding that.
Just an FYI: all packages that are packed at a packing party have the shipping paid for by "Molly's..." so that will not be an issue or added expense to the group.
The theme is "A Picnic in Central Park". Aug. is Nat'l Picnic Month. They will receive their pkgs around 9/11, so the idea is to try to put some happiness into their memories and remind them "We Will Never Forget."
Lots more info in the discussion so please check it out.
Count me in. It wil just be me as my husband has to work. See you then!
I would just LOVE to meet you. This Sunday, as in 7/31? It is a little "iffyy" but I'll see if I can work it out. Do you have the address for that Cracker Barrel so I can put it in my GPS? I'll need zip code too.
Also, have a surprise I'm anxious to share with you all. Will be 'officially' announced on 8/1 so Sunday isn't too early is it? I'm looking at this as an honor to all of the small New England States represented in N4M!! And that is all I am going to tell you ... you'll have to wait!
