So happy that I found this forum...just wish I would have found it much sooner...as I type this, our Midshipman daughter is at Cortramid East.  She flies out to day for Kings Bay, GA...as the first rotation for the sub week.  She is very excited and looking forward to the 4 - possible 5 - days "underway!"  Since it is a sub and things are classified - we will have no contact with her until she returns, as they can not take their cell phones.  :(

I would love to hear from anyone else who's child is there for the next four weeks.  I know that it will be busy for them, and such an amazing opportunity.

Hi Em's Mama...

Our son is East right now too. He is also at sub week currently.  From what i heard they had the opportunity to start the week off pretty hard... at the beach yesterday.  His last text to me was "Mass on Sunday at 9, bus leaves for beach at 10:45"  They flew on Navy planes down to Kings Bay, so i'm anxious to hear what his first "Navy" flight experience was like.

My son is in Company B, what about your daughter?

Do you have a schedule from her unit?  If not, i can look up the link for one for you so you can see when they travel, when they're flying, etc.

take care...

Our daughter is in Alpha Company :)   She did not take her cell phone with her to GA.  Left it locked up in her room back at NAS Norfolk... :(    I think she must have thought they could not take them, since they can't have them while on the subs.  So happy to hear that they had such a hard day yesterday...lol.

We do have the schedule for the entire time she is there.  I made a copy of her original packet so that I would :)

She has flown in a couple military aircraft, while doing NJROTC in high school - but I am very anxious to hear what they ended up taking down to GA, as well.

Where does your son attend college?  Our daugther is at VMI/Mary Baldwin.  She is the only Navy cadet in her corps at Mary Baldwin, and is with 14 other Naval Midshipmen from VMI while down there.  A friend of our son's is down at NAS Norfolk as well, he is going to be a 4th year Midshipman at USNA - and Friday night when our kid's were walking to the NEX - he passed her while driving...called our son and asked if she was down there.  They are hoping to meet for dinner when she has some liberty.  Small world....

Yes, small world.  Our daughter is a 1/C Mid Nursing student at Marquette University & while she was in San Diego at the Naval Medical Center in June she ran into friends there.

Our son, the one at Cortramid E, is a 3/C Mid at Marquette.

Must be difficult to be the only Mid at Mary Baldwin.  Our son would prob be ok w/ that, but our daughter would be lost without her Mid friends at MU.

We haven't heard from our son since Saturday night, so he's either too busy to contact at all or they were told to put their phones away [or he's just happy to have a break from his mother -- he's be "working" for me this summer!! lol ]

We'll have to stay in contact & share info since they're following the same schedule thru Cortramid.

peace & joy to you

Wow...2 wonderful children both following the same wonderful path, you must be so proud.

Em is okay with being the only midshipman at Mary B ~ most of the cadets are Army, with a few AF.  VMI was hoping she got her scholarship from the Marines - lol - not too many female Marine cadets these days.

Okay, Em is going to be a sophmore in August, so would that make her a 2/C or do I have it backwards, and she would be a 3/C - I am thinking it would be a 3/C and not a 2nd year...so her brother's friend who is down there for other reasons, is going to be a senior at USNA, so he would be a 1/C ?  so much to learn... but I love that she is doing what she loves and following her dream.

I wonder if they went underway today - or if that will happen tomorrow?  She said there is a chance they will be in the sub for 4 to 5 days!  Our son's other friend is a Midshipman at BU and he said that when he did Cortramid a couple years ago - they took them for 5 full days!

Can't wait to hear from them when they get back above the water and can call us.

Have a lovely evening, and it really is great to make this connection with another mom :)

Yes, freshman are 4/C, sophomores are 3/C, juniors 2/C & seniors 1/C.  Took me awhile to catch on, and then when dd would come home w/ all the "letters" ... "CO"  "XO"  "GQ"  "NNCC"  "POD"  "PCA" ... it got even more confusing, especially when she wasn't even sure what the letters or phrase meant, just knew how to use it in a military sentence lol

Our guy thought he heard cuz of Bin Laden & tightened security they may only get to be on the sub overnight.  Maybe someone from Cort West told him that?!?  That would be a shame tho.

I agree, nice to make this connection :]

peace & joy to you... if you hear from Em, let me know!!  & i'll do the same if i hear from Jf

I have a daughter currently at Cortramid East.  She's at Tulane University.  I haven't heard from her for a few days...didn't know the first rotation was sub, and no phones. That is good to know.  How does one get the schedule??

Our son was sent a link w/ his welcome packet.

http://www.marquette.edu/rotc/navy/documents/CE%202011%20Welcome%20...

I'm pretty sure the last page is their schedule, but you'll need to know what Company she's in in order to follow it for her specifically.  The whole packet is pretty interesting, we thought.

THANKS!  The package is really interesting and good to have in hand.

Thanks! I found out she in in D company, so now I know her activities.

Hey!  My daughter is in G Company and having aviation this week.  I have heard from her each day, and she is having a great time.  She goes to the University of Oklahoma.

Hi!!  Exciting, isn't it!!

Kinda wish it were me there experiencing all this stuff...except for Marine week!! lol  i'm sure i'm not physically up to that anymore.

Thanks for the c/4, c/3 info!  So she is a c/3 - and her friend who is in Norfolk (not for Cortramid) is a c/1 then...good thing he is not reading this...lol

I am so anxious to hear from her and what they did and how long they really were on the sub.  A friend of ours was stationed there and said they are the "big boy's" he called them bomber subs, because they are the ones with the missals - so my thughts were the same, with the state of affairs in the world right now - would they really send them down for so many days?  I think she said they were told this at one of their meetings when they first got there.

Yep, Marine week has to be one that I would just have to pass on - but these kid's will do so well and what an experience.

When she gets home on the 6th - we will only have 1 week with her before she returns back to college :( ....I hope that is enough time for her to be able to tell us about everything!

Have a blessed day ladies.  I love checking this site!  Just makes me feel a bit closer to Em.
