Found this online :) from a Jan 2009 Notice from Navy Education Command- thought it was interesting :) I can post the link if you want to read the entire thing. It's about 5 pages long.

NavyMomBarb- You must be so proud of your daughter for getting through that :) You know how hard she pushed herself. It's not easy - we can only imagine. I developed a whole new appreciation for ROTC :) There will be ups and down for all of them. One of the hardest for me to deal with is when I talk to mine and I hear the complete exhaustion in her voice. I'm ok when she's busy, crabby, frustrated, sick, pretty much all of that but when they get that complete worn out, dragged out sound to them and you know they are still not done... jeez I have a terrible time with that. Happens towards the midterms and semester end.

And was there someone on here that was asking about how many NROTC scholarships given out? I was trying to figure out where I saw the question.

Hi Moms-
Big Thank You to NJmom for updating SusanW's list of Moms and Schools :)
I'm going to tag it as a "featured discussion" so it stays on top of the discussion board. To add your name with your child's school just go to the END of the discussion and copy the most current list, add your name/school and repaste. If you're on there and something isn't right- let us know so we can fix it. It's a nice way to get in touch with someone else at the same school that your child is at or headed to as each one has it's own little nuances.

Susan- In talking with the Capt. it was actually last years group that was the anamoly. Typically the unit has closer to 30 coming in. He could not explain why last years group was so small. Glad to hear that about Minnesota though. I think I did read somewhere that the applicants for ROTC were up considerably although I don't think means they are accepting any more than usual.

Centhea- I love that guys/girls ratio. Was really hoping to see an increase at my daughter's school this year since the size of the incoming was so much bigger. Last year out of 16, 5 were girls. This year, out of 31, 6 were girls. Oh well- it is an engineering school I guess.

Hi NROTC group-
I'd like to say how great it was to meet to Deb, Kay and Kerri at the PIR Sunday. The kids all looked great in their spankin' new Whites !! Wow !! The new group coming in is double the size of last years so that is great.
Congratulations to everyone who has finished up their O-Week and good luck to those in process and those about to start :) They are almost all done as Sept. is not very far away. I'm working on putting up a few pictures so they will be there soon.- Paulette

JB- Your comment is so true!! Kara said last year she could hardly look anywhere but straight ahead. I told her since she was going back this year maybe she could actually see something :))

Kay- You got to meet her?? That's so cool ! Geez I hope she was nice. She's a little thing and she did share that many of them were caught off guard I guess by how loud she could yell- yikes. She's losing her voice already. Talked to her again briefly today. They are having an experience- been swimming, sailing, in the "damage tanks (very, very cool). I guess the place is packed with kids. Unlike last year when our group was there- this year there are units from all over !! Kara said it is crazy. Plus they are working with twice as many newbies with half as many staff !! Just a little FYI if you do talk to your kids- O-week is NOT how their year will be :) This is their "Navy" experience. Their year will be much more of a college experience so - they are being pushed- but when they return they will fall into probably more of what they expected. So- like was mentioned- don't let the week drag 'em down.

Hi all, I have not written for a while my daughter attends Fordham in New York and was home for a while then on to summer cruise in San Diego and now home until next week. She LOVES the Navy and all it has to offer. The things she was able to experience on her cruise; flying a MH-60r and a T-34, putting out fires for surface week then staying on an amphib for a week, spending time inside a submarine, etc.; what an exciting time for her. Her freshman year in New York was quite difficult she had knee surgery, was hopitalized for food poisoning, hospitalized for a burst cyst, it seemed she was constantly ill. Plus adjusting to the weather (we live in CA) and being away from home. I don't think she would have made it if she had not been in NROTC, they were always there for her. She will return to New York next week and she is so excited to see her ROTC friends and help indoctrinate the freshmen.
It will be hard to see her leave until December, but I feel so much better sending her off to school so far from home knowing she has the comradery of ROTC.

Tianna:
I'm sure that scared you and your daughter a great deal. This past week has been one of the hottest in many parts of the country which makes it that much more difficult on alot of the kids. My daughter called very quickly last night and said some of their newbies were throwing up after once around the track so they were really pushing the water, water, water. Today they were going sailing :) It happened twice last year to my D. but not at O-Week, both times in their basement gym which has a concrete floor. Thank God she was caught before she hit the ground. I'm so sorry your daughter has decided this is not for her but I guess she got enough of a taste. That's what the opportunity is about really. I hope she's back on her feet quickly. Take care :)))- Paulette
