May 5, 2009, Sara Kelly said… Hi,
Sara Kelly here,
Thank you for your note. I am not great with the computer but wil try to respond asap.
I have one son currently on board the USS Donald Cook out of Norfolk VA. My other son is NROTC @ Boston University. He is finishing his junior year. He was accepted into the Nuclear Propulsion Program & will go to Nuke school after graduation next May. My boys loved the program. They are very different individuals & both learned & grew in different ways. If anyone has any questions about NROTC @ B.U. I may be of service. Thanks.

Welcome to everybody- we keep growing. This is awesome! I am trying to pass the word around to existing members that may be interested since there has not been a separate group for us.

Also started a a new discussion above about ROTC and USNA.
Congratulations to your daughter Holly!! I'm sure she will love NROTC. We also have found it to be an amazing program in so many ways. It's a support system for your child that is already in place before they even get there. They really do form a pretty tight bond. As a parent with my first going off to college that has helped me.

Hi Paulette,

Thanks for the personal invitation to join you and your members in ROTC!! Although my ROTC experience is very limited, I'm eager to learn more about this wonderful educational opportunity so that I may pass it along to other parents and students.

Kathy B-
This should be the right place to get your questions anwered :) My daughter loves ROTC and while at first thought Annapolis was the place for her, now couldn't imagine it any other way.

Susan- Is he the only Navy ROTC student or the only ROTC student in general? There may by Army and Air Force ROTC students on campus to keep him company. Either way you are correct- it will work out fine.

Barb- your daughter will learn FAST to organize her time with school and ROTC. I would be surprised if her life doesn't pretty much revolve around those two things and the kids in the unit at least for the first semester- and that's not a bad thing. Usually they are good kids and studying really hard. They are so busy with getting acclimated to everything in the beginning that I think 90% of my daughter's free time was spent with ROTC students. They bond right from the get-go (by last name, so even at this point in the year she doesn't think everyone knows her first name- lol)

Chris- Kara can't go on summer cruise this year. She's majorily disappointed but because she was a mid-year scholarship recipient (3 1/2 yr) their is no funding for them for CORTRAMID. So- it looks like home and a summer job.
KU stands for....?

Linda- did seeing your son's face on my page make you do a double take- lol !!
I know I would have been pretty surprised :)
