yes at NROTC at his school without the scholarship, which means he's in the "college program".  college programmers don't get to participate in the summer training because they're not on scholarship.  the only thing that is paid for is uniforms and books for the naval classes.  So, he does nothing during the summer.

Yes, ViperGirl and MizzouMom, was just reading up on PLC.  sounds like another avenue to get a commission, like you've said.  I'm wondering if the person who called doesn't realize that my son is in the college program.  appears that all these options really end up in the same place; just different ways to get there.

Yep, Pattie H, we're hoping that happens, too.

I'll be honest, it would be very nice to have the scholarship to pay for college, but we were already prepared to do so before the College Program offer was on the table to begin with.  But still, a nice opportunity it would be.

Thanks ViperGirl.  He's attending Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego.  He is Marine Option.  He definitely plans to continue and knows it's competitive. It's just when he got the call for the 2nd interview, he was really excited and hopeful that he had another shot at it.  He doesn't know yet that he wasn't chosen for the scholarship because he's at Orientation.  I may not break the news to him tomorrow after 9 days of running and being yelled at, you know?  don't want to make him feel like he's a complete failure after making it through the greuling very long week.

Hi all.  I have a few questions, but I'll give a little background info first.  My son is currently at Orientation via the College Program. He starts college on Tues. he received a call a few weeks ago to interview and take another PFT for a 2nd shot at the scholarship.  He got a 280 on his PFT (max is 300) and he capt that interviewed him said he was really competitive for the scholarship.  Just received a call saying that he wasn't chosen but that they wanted to talk to him about the Platoon Leaders Class.  I know he'll need to receive the scholarship prior to this Jr year in order for him to continue, so there is still hope (fingers crossed).  So what's the PLC class all about?  is it a last ditch effort?  are there two groups/units working the scholarship program and they not communicating?   If he was an almost perfect on his PFT, then what's the scoop?  he graduated with a 3.85 and has a 28 ACT, so he's no slouch.  any enlightenment into the process is sooo appreciated. Thanks.

Jn/Jfmom-

Congrats to your daughter for her BNXO billet.  I know you must be super proud to watch her take that on.  It probably actually started to keep her busy back into the summer :(   It really is something to watch the girls take on the "Top 3" billets with most of the units so heavily weighted in favor of the guys.  For the first time ever my DDs unit has a female BNXO and BNCO for the Fall

Semester.

It is weird, bittersweet and I am having a hard time with it but at the same time I look at how amazingly happy she is and I know this what she has worked so hard for.  She is definitely where she belongs.  I just keep thinking to myself- God gave me 3 children,  2 boys and 1 girl and my Girl is one that wanted to join the military ???  Really ??    I just keep smiling.

OWeek is almost half over-  hang in there :)

helenp -- When our dd's MIDN friend was on medical "leave" from PTs i know she did a LOT of elliptical & things like that ... there is some Naval regulation that counted her workouts on those as PT so she didn't get any chits or whatever for missing too much due to her knee surgery.  If his unit gives him a hard time about being out on medical, have him check deeper & look for medical leave regs, etc for NROTC.

Our 1/C just pulled out of the driveway for her final year of NROTC.  She is the BNXO for the semester & has to report tomorrow morning for staff training for FrO.  So so bittersweet.  So sorry to see her go, but so very proud of her for being selected as BNXO.

Paulette -- i had to smile when i read your post about your dd who is the CO for FrO, cuz our dd is the same ... never could have imagined she'd be one of the "big 3" her 1/C year.  Heck, at FrO i'm not sure she could have imagined she'd ever even make it to her 1/C year.

We still have almost 2 weeks before we have to take our 3/C back.  i'm hanging onto that!!  :}

God's Blessings to all of you & to your MIDN as we all enter into another year on their Naval journies.

My daughter goes back to start her 2nd year on Wednesday!!  Thank God!  She has been so bored around here.  She went in thinking about aviation but now she is more interested in Nuke!  Good Luck everyone!  Lukes mama-I need to let go more too!!

Paulette,

It really is a small world. I wish I could go to the Drill Competitions, but Missouri is just too far.

I bring my son back to Rochester next Monday 8/22. Then I'll be visiting with my Dad in Geneva until 9/1. My son is still recovering from his shoulder surgery, but he feels great--no pain--so he wants to do PT--or at least do something to get in shape They told him not even to run because the risk is too high if he were to fall it could damage it while it's healing inside. He sees the doctor Thurs. and hopes he will clear him to do SOMETHING!

Helen and Vipergirl:

My daughter has been at the Cornell MEC the past 3 years :)  I haven't been to that one but my husband did go last year since it's not that far from us.  Small world.   I also think my girl must be one of the very few that joins NROTC and does NOT want to be a pilot- LOL !  Kara is hoping for an interview for SWO-Nuke in the fall.  We are crossing our fingers and praying.

She left yesterday for her senior year- NROTC O-Week.  Her last O-Week, her last move-in, it is so unreal.  She is actually acting student CO for the training week so she was working on her Welcome Brief the past  few days.  We were both talking about her first week there in 2008 and her O-Week like it was yesterday.  The Student CO then had said in his briefing "In 3 years, one of you will be standing where I am today.... ".  Kara said to me she never thought it would be her because at that point she could hardly remember how to write her own name considering what they were going through- :)

Just wanted to share with the new mom's that your kids will survive  because I'm sure there are some that are unsure that whether they will.  In addition- I swear someone sped up time over the past 3 years.  Crazy.
