Hi my son is a sophomore at USC and is planning on applying for flight school (I'm sure that is not the correct term for it) but he will need prk or lasik. He has been told that either is fine and that we just find a doctor to do it and get it…Continue

ViperGirl,
His wants to be a pilot
ViperGirl and hanksmom,
My son just became Marine Option officially in May (the end of his sophomore year). He had submitted the paperwork in the fall but had missed the fall board and had to wait until the spring board. According to him and his command it wasn't easy or a sure thing. And what we were told is officially he gives up his Naval scholarship to accept the Marine Option but he didn't do that until his packet was accepted by the board, so there was never a danger of him losing his scholarship. He did say the ease of transfer might depend on the school and how many Marine Option spots the units have.
Rose4256....Thanks haha you made me laugh!!!
ViperGirl,
He has always wanted to be a pilot. If by some chance he doesn't get commissioned to flight school, right now his second choice is Nuke SWO.
Our sons probably crossed paths at the Cornell Drill Competition last fall. They have come a long way already since then. :-)
ViperGirl,
I guess there are no simple logistics, even if you don't have twins! Sounds like you'll be driving to Cornell twice. Maybe your daughter will make it easy for you when she chooses a college. Last year I had three in college! And my daughter was/is in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. We put many thousands of miles on the cars! I drove to MN to get her and she joined us on the trek to NY & OH to move her brothers in (since she was the expert and got to boss them, she was willing), then back to MO where she flew back to MN to start her senior year. She's staring an AmeriCorps job in Sept. and moving into a new apartment on Sept. 1st and I feel bad she has to do it all on her own, but I can't get there while I'm taking care of the boys in another part of the country. She's coming home for a week next week and the two of us are going on a mother/daughter weekend trip to the Clinton Library in Little Rock and the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis.
I went to Waterloo High School, so you pass through my neck of the woods on your way to Cornell. We live on the eastern fringe of Geneva just over the border.
I wish your son well with his switch to Marine option. They have to follow their own path and we have to watch them do it and be proud even while we worry. What is he studying at Cornell?
for clarification on white "athletic socks" for orientation ... do they mean "crew" socks or "tube" socks. I purchased crew, but now I'm re-thinking that. I guess if they mean "tube" they would have said that, but one never knows. thanks -
Thank you everyone for all your feedback! It means the world to me!!! You have all helped me alot! Right now her mood is back to ....."I'm going to do it" I will keep you posted if things changed haha
Marine Option--that's a huge decision. I wish him the best. He's at Cornell, right? So you drive through my hometown of Geneva to get him there? Or do you take 390 south? My son really loved marine Week at CORTRAMID and considered switching for a moment. But he's staying with Navy.
Yes, he's helping with NROTC Orientation. He's supposed to be the sergeant who gets to yell at the new Mids! lol He moves in on Aug. 23. and INDOC is that next weekend. Classes start Aug. 31. He and I will drive from Missouri to my Dad's in Geneva on Aug. 21 (15 hours!). I'm hoping he can rally some NROTC friends to help move him in because he won't be able to lift and carry stuff yet, so I'll be on my own. It will be a crazy week as he has NROTC responsibilities plus is required to attend Transfer Orientation at U of R, and we have to set him up with a new orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist. I am keeping his car to get around, so he won't have it until my husband and Anthony's twin brother join me at my Dad's on Aug. 28. Then we have to turn around and bring my other son back to Oberlin, OH and help him move into his dorm and then back to Missouri. It's a good thing my husband is a logistics expert. Getting twins to colleges with different calendars in different states is a logistical challenge. But my Dad is 89 and this gives me a chance to spend some time with him :-)
