I couldn't wait for my daughter to get back from Cortramid and now I can't wait for her to go back to school.....hahha....She does so much better when she is busy!
I am not from a military family, in fact no one in my family has ever been so when she wanted to do this I flipped!!!....but her NROTC experience so far has been wonderful! Moogie I requested to be your "friend" on her because I want to write you a private message because I think my daughter knows your daughter small world!

This has been an amazing first year for my daughter in NROTC.  She is our youngest, so it is probably hardest to see her grow up.  She has had to extend herself more than she ever thought, but has had such huge rewards doing it!  She is finishing Surface week at Cortramid right now, then Subs next week before going home for 4 days.  She will be heading back to U. of OK then to help with orientation. What an amazing first year - but what amazing growth in my mid!!  We moms do wear our hearts on our sleeves, but no one can be prouder of our kids than we are!!

yours, too Cheryl...hope this is the BEST year yet for them!!!! getting my mid ready and I think he's ready for summer to be OVER and head back to start up again....before we know it, they'll be wishing Thanksgiving break is here.....

I understand that..expressing my feelings because there are different feelings about that....some moms are more sensitive to letting go than others....don't want anybody to feel they can't express sadness about their mid leaving, that is all.

I don't know anything about riding somebody's coat tails......I will still miss my son....I am RETIRED from the military...not somebody in my family, but ME. and I thank God that I still have time with him, the summers, whenever...and YES, I still feel empty when he leaves, at least for a while...that feeling will never go away for me. I know too well, when school is up, the Navy has him, so the comment about the coattails...don't know what that's all about....

I agree with ViperGirl, i'd rather have them growing up than on our coat tails forever, however it was sad that we only had about 14 days with all of us together this summer.  Our 1/C had a June cruise & our 3/C had July CORTRAMID.  1/C is BNXO, so she needs to be back to school sooner.

Our don't start school til late in August, so at least we'll get another couple weeks w/ our 3/C after CORTRAMID.  i'd really be sad if he went back next week!!

on to another topic......is anybody's mid starting school next week? after CORTRAMID, time sure did fly....I can't believe he's going back next week already :(

Everyone is absolutely right :)   Take a big deep breath and RELAX and that is so hard because I know what you want to do is prepare your son for everything he is going to need.   The fact of the matter is-  The unit is going to make sure he has what he needs, whether that is information or clothing or shoe polish / how to use it / when to use it/ when to wear it, etc.  That is a lot of what Orientation Week is for :)   My daughter is the CO of her units O-Week this year, who would have ever thought- oh my- I'm such a proud mom (big smile).  They even taught the girls how to properly put their hair up in a bun so it won't fall out during PT.  They will learn how to iron.

In Kara's unit- they get a schedule every week that tells them what attire they need on what day if it is something special ( uniform, PCA, etc.)  The PCA they were strict on in the first 2 months and then slacked off.  Now they have a new Capt. so things may change-  these moms said it.  Every unit is different :) ;)

The unit probably sent you a list of what he needs to report with.  As long as he has those items then you don't need to worry.  There will be add-ons most likely but they will be minor.  The best thing he can do to get ready is work out by running.  And running and then running some more- LOL.  Most of the kids that come in - at least to my daughters unit, even if they are in great shape, underestimate how much running they do.

You're doing a great job Mom- hang in there :)   It's all good.  Tune up your camera too !!
