We received one of those scary you are disqualified letters in June the year she graduated. They are so formally written and it is scAry to think you have to file an appeal. We were able to obtain all the medical records and sent it back overnight. The board's decision was surprisingly quick, think they decided it within a week to ten days, the Lt from the unit called with the good news.

Hope you hear soon!

MizzouMom, I was thinking the same thing...a little late and these things should have been resolved/answered. I can only speak from m son's experience and his university.....DoDMERB may or may not be helpful. THey are the one's with the answer. Some are helpful, some not so much. The physical takes a while!!! no scholarship will be granted until your son is cleared.....so many start school financing themselves until/IF they get a scholarship. The process is lengthy. That's the reason they tell all upcoming freshman to start very early. Most are at the waiting process this late in the game because they were approved for a scholarship after several looks. Just because they are approved for the scholarship from the officer board in Pennsacola does not mean they will get the scholarship....that depends on the outcome of the medical board.  Most questions that you new mom's have have probably been answered somewhere on here at some point this last year. Good luck, be patient, you are not going through anythings most moms have not gone through themselves....N4M is a great site for questions/answers, but I also find searching and googling also answer alot of my questions. I can't believe this year and CORTRAMID have already flown by....my Mid goes back to school on the first week of August. Miss him already....good luck returning mom's to all your kids who will be leaving soon.....it's crazy heat down here in GA and I can't wait for the fall :)

My son says his eye exam has a disqualification and his ROTC at the campus told him it was standard and would get a waiver because he is correctable to 20/20...also the medical exam is still pending.  When will this be done how long does it take?  Also just curious if anyone knows what happens when they take their physical fittness test when school starts?  What if they do everything in the correct time or if they do not?

Vipergirl, I pushed my son to go Navy, def not Army....12 and the time I was in 15 month rotations were just too much....nobody is safe in the Army....I knew some Navy and the technical jobs they do are hands down the best, for my son's need. I drive the train when it comes to his military career as of right now. My family, as yours, has always been a military/patriotic familly..we have all been in. So, yeah, we do have hindsite...we are not going into this new to the military in any way...so I pretty much lay all options out to him and he eventually sees things the  way it really is....when he has some more experience under his belt and is a little more mature, he then can make decisions based on knowledge, not spur of the moment. Some parents may thinkk that's the wrong way to go, but I know better....I've seen it happen too many times when they go into something face first...only to make catastrophic decisions they cannot get out of....again, I hope whichever road he takes will be the right one for him....he's got a family that supports him based on past experience and knowledge and that's priceless.

ViperGirl, I hope your son reallly has thought this through...I mean, I am by no means trying to say one branch is better than the other, but they only see a very small portion the Marine mission, it's only a week. Man, I would really have to talk to my son, I know they are adults and all :), but.......I am retired from the military, I give my wisdom to my son whether he wants to hear it or not. I guess the bottom line is this...do the  Marines have JOBS that he would want to do or be interested in? most are Infantry based, not many technical careers, but tell him to really look into it, and talk to Marines who are already in...they have a very different perspective of how it really is... maybe a recruiter around your house? anything or anyone he can get his hands on....a marine cadet still in college is not the best source of information....just some ideas......good luck to him, hope he makes the right choice for himself.....keep us updated
