Melinda, I hadn't thought of that...great idea, but you are right, it would have costed about the same. He always seems to have problems with them breaking at the most inconvenient times.

FYI - my son needed glasses as well.  We faxed his prescription to the Optical Store at the Navy Exchange and they were able to get him glasses with a 24 hr. turnaround.  He paid close to $200, but that's probably what it would have cost here and we didn't have to spend money on shipping.

Here's something I wish I would have known, I had to FEDEX some new glasses to him last Friday. I spent 90.00 to get from GA to CA, guarantee'd Tuesday delivery because Monday was the federal holiday. He didn't get his glass until yesterday. They do not have mail call during Marine week, so the money spent was for nothing. FYI for any mother who may need to send something fast. Don't do it, it won't get to them.

Finally heard from my son...got some great pictures from some of his friends that posted them last night on FB....thanks to them, I will have them to scrapbook. He said Marine week was long and he liked the fact that they got to do some neat things like the weapons, amphibious vehilce rides and some patrols. He also reconfirmed that although it was interesting, he had no interest in the whole mission of the Marines. I told him, that's ok, that's what CORTRAMID is for and that everybody joins the service they think interests them. He has made friends with other Mids other than his school and they all went out for a pre-dinner and then actual dinner. He was DIRTY AND STARVING.

Do the kids on cruises have access to the internet or email? Mine heads away next week to start her cruise. I get to go home and see her for a few days before she heads out. Very excited.
Know the contra mids are having a blast. My computer doesn't like the word contra mid.
