Bear with me, i'm sad for our daughter & need to share so i can get over it...

Though she has 14 sets of aunts & uncles and dozens of cousins, i just realized our immediate family will be the only ones there for her at her commissioning next year :[

One side family all live across the country.  On the other side she has a cousin that will be ordained as a Priest that day.  I am certain everyone will go to that [and should], including her G'Pa that was in the Navy.  She will understand, but i know she will be so sad at the same time.  i know there are some in her Unit that have dozens of people there for their commissioning.

Thanks for letting me tear up on here so i can keep my composure when i tell DD   :'(

Just home from attending the Presidential Review at my son's college.  Wow was it impressive to see the accomplishments of some of these young men and women!  The PIR was quite the sight for a first-time mom.  I can hardly believe that my son's 1st year of college and NROTC is over in a week!  The time really does fly!

Megan- (which by the way is my name too) yes he is just finishing his 2nd year and they do Mountain Warfare instead of the Blue Shirt Cruise. He is pretty excited, he wasn't sure he would get to go because he heard so late. The only downside is he will be gone over the 4th of July. But that is something I will have to get used to!

Suvwi - my son is Marine Option as well. He's just finishing his first year at Tulane. He'll be going to CORTAMID this summer.

Is your son finishing up his second year?  So instead of 2nd class cruise, he does Mountain Warfare?

Susan..Malaysia? not too bad!!! sounds exciting for him!! can you imagine the experiences??  Cheryl...the Navy is pretty fair with PT standards so I don't think she made the wrong choice...in no way am I saying the Navy standards are lax, not at all, but I have plenty of Army experience and with teaching Army cadets. While they don't get out for only 1 failure or lower than average tests, they are put on remedial programs and are flagged. THis means absolutely NO positive training/schools/temporary duties (anything that is good) can happen until they achieve standards...I know that your daughter scored well, but I believe the other two services (minus Air Force) can't speak for them as I have no dealings with them, rest assured, she prob made a good decision. Army and Marines usually go strictly with physical scores and that's not always fair..it has nothing to do with how good a leader/officer you will become. I am glad my son went Navy..I wouldn't choose any other of the forces for him and his career. Good luck to her!

We just got the news today on what Brit's 3C cruise will be... His package was accepted and he is now officially Marine Option so he will be doing  Mountain Warfare Training. Any other Marine Option Moms out there?
