I worked at a summer camp one summer of college I got paid about around $18 per hour and that was several summers ago. I also ran a tutoring program for 6 weeks last summer at a middle school for 4k. There are some decent paying summer jobs if you look in the right places. Best of luck to all those who are IRR  hoping the time flies by.

Thank you for this information about IRR. My son hadn't mentioned it.I sent the article to him and asked him what's happening in his unit.  He's 4th class and aspires to aviation.

Thanks, Rose, for the link to the IRR article.  It was a good read.

Just emailed dd to see if any midn at MU are being put on IRR after commissioning in May.  Am interested to hear her answer.  Am also curious if she has less chance of being put on IRR cuz she's in nursing & is supposed to go to a hospital for 2 years after commissioning?!?

NurseNavy Mom, how PROUD you must be of your son!!!! congrats to him and his family.....we have 3 more years to go, but can only imagine when they get to that point where this is it, this is what I've been given a scholarship for. Blessings going out to your family!!

well said, Whitney......the only reason I don't want him to get married yet is that I know too well how fast things happen, marriage, possibly children...then there is conflict between the military and their family. I retired from the Army two years ago and felt like I was always putting my family on the back burner. I had a successful career, but not without multiple deployments and I hated every one of them. I don't want my son marrying a woman who would make demands out of him...you KNOW some are like that.....I've seen it so many times....

ArmyNavymom, at 24 I still have alot to learn, but I'm oh so glad I didn't marry the person I was casually dating when I was a freshman in college. I took the best advice from my parents told me "don't get married until your out of college". No matter what I have a back up plan and the opportunity to have a great secondary income for our family. Unfortunately, I'm not gonna "live in sin" for 2.5 more years for Brady to graduate that just won't happen. I'm the last one of my 5 closest high school friends to get married, they all are like pregnant or have newborns.  I couldn't do to my body not at this age no way Pcola is coming up in 2.5 years and I want the beach body still!

Lukes mama, I feel the same way, they have so much ahead of them.....they have made good choices and I'm glad my son has alot to look forward to. Me personally, I hope he stays single for a long time....I always tell him to enjoy his life as a single guy in the Navy, I know many are married and things are great for them, but I want mine to enjoy the ride that he shapes and enjoys the way he wants to. Have a great time with  your kids!!!!
