Mine is home with me and I could not be happier....yes, I am amazed by how fast this year has gone by....finals left, CORTRAMID, then the cycle begins again....I am just glad he's still in college and can come home....I am not ready to give him up to the Navy just yet, but when that time comes, I know I will have to and he will be ready to go. Have a great spring break!

Thanks ArmyNavy mom.  Believe me, I know what you mean by thinking of them as still little boys.  He's had to remind me that he's not.  I've just tried to be  there 100 percent for him to vent and lean on and I think it has paid off.  We try not to interfere, but still try to guide them and get them to think of this great opportunity they have.  He has had alot of support at his unit and I think that has really helped him get through.  I'm hoping he sticks with it, I really do.  Thanks for your support.

We have a dog, but Brayd is the one in the military and I'll be a working wife staying stateside or at least on the homefront. If we we are moved out of country our where we can not easily bring the dog i'm sure one of our parents would suffer through a year or two with our big bouncing bundle of joy. Our dog is crated so she never spends the day in the house alone she's in her safe place with toys. Walking her, playing with her, ect are brady's job since he's in school and I am working (his hours are shorter than my 55 hr work week). I would not recommend it for a single person.

My daughter's boyfriend is in Flight School for the Navy. He got a dog when he first entered flight school because he was in a new state and lonely, my daughter advised him against it. He did not listen to her and adopted one.It is not working out, between moving from one state to another, then going to another state for further training, long days, etc. the poor dog is either shuffled from one place to another or home alone almost all of the time. Her boyfriend is now looking for a home for the dog.

I don't think ANYbody is going to give up?? they have all come too far..whether it's been 4 years, 2, or finishing up their freshman year....they will have good days, bad days, terrible days, but deep down inside...they won't give up. I am proud of the freshman mom's out there who have made it (almost) through the first year...for some of us, letting go was the hardest thing.......

Zachsmom, wow!!! a rower and going to the Netherlands!! chance of a life time! much luck to him!! I know how you feel, we want them to make their own choices as they should know what's best for them...but it's hard for me not to interfere at times.....I still see my son as a little boy...and I so know he's not. Luck to your son!!!!

My son got a pass on COTRADMID this summer.  He is a rower and trying to make the national team to compete in the Netherlands this summer.  He is really thinking about if he wants to continue with the ROTC scholarship he has. He wanted to drop out and it was a horrible first semester.  He has really settled in and is having a much better second semester and for him to even be thinking about staying in is something I never thought would be happening after those first 5 months!  Glad they are over!  He has really matured and I hope he makes the right decision for himself!  We love him no matter what his decision is.  I can't believe this first year is almost over.  Good Luck to all the midshipmen who are being commissioned and to all the others on their cruises this summer!
