We heard that our son is going west.   We live East as well, but he'll be visiting his grandparents out in Portland, so they've approved the West. He'll have a couple of weeks between school and heading out.

My son is on the same 'boat' so to speak...we live on the East, he put in West...still waiting.....and probably will be until the last minute...hurry up and wait!

My son was told if your permanent address is west of the Mississippi River, you will most likely go West for COTRAMID. He's at school in New York, but lives in Missouri, so he expects to go West. He won't get home until Sunday or Monday, May 23 and West is May 26, so just 3 days. But then he'll have all of July and August here, so it's OK.

We lucked out, missed the ice and snow in western Colorado. Son's school in San Antonio has been having rolling blackouts. Reports from New Orleans very cold (in the 30's) and rain.

Does anyone have information about the summer cruise for the second year kids? What do they do, where do they go, which coast, what kind of ships? Dau has three different possible dates for it (three different sessions). Appreciate your help.

On anoather vein: you all use skype right? Very easy program, free to use, can teleconference w/ your kid when you catch them online. Wonderful to see them. This is not an ad, just have used skype to survive the separations for many years. Older dau used to call from Spain, all over US too. I know iphones and smart phones can use it (or another program like it) but for us in the boonies w/o all the latest gadgets it works well.

My freshman year i called home every month atleast.. yeah didn't call home much. But over the years i've gotten back the calling mom or texting  5 days a week. Now with wedding planning we have 2-8 short phone calls a day. I remember my mom texting at 4 pm on a friday I was like "Mom I'm out drinking" she would text at 9am the next morning and I would say "Mom pancake and beer breakfast" her reply would be "text back one if I should be worried about alcoholism or 2 this won't happen next weekend" haha.

It's great to see our sons out there flourishing on their own....there will always be highs and lows, but what a great opportunity! I tell my son that all the time, we are a die hard military family and I am so glad that my son carries on the tradition, in a new branch of service, but carries the torch....guess we have a reason to be proud of our sons and daughters....we will always be the mother hen, and I will always be ultra sensitive when it comes to my son. Good for Luke!!! :)
