Haven't been keeping up.....lots going on here. I read farther back that USAA did not charge fees around the world.......I just sent my son his debit card which he forgot and left home and with it sent the notice that they would charge a fee for any withdrawal on a foreign bank. FYI.
All this stuff about CORTRAMID really takes me back! It all went by so fast! Today, the movers came to take my son's "stuff" to ship to Hawaii where he is now stationed (although he is out on the ocean at present). It makes everything seem so final. You all will not believe how fast it comes! I feel rather lonesome tonight.....he's an only child. It's kind of weird how they can be away at school for 4 years but when they move away and are on their ship it seems so far away (and actually it is!!).
NMBarb......hope Taryn gets better quickly.

That's my delicate debutante behind the gun.

I'm new, sorry if this link has already been discussed. The website for everything you ever wanted to know about uniforms and accessories down to the correct size and color of earrings and bras and undies

http://www.npc.navy.mil/CommandSupport/USNavyUniforms/UniformRegula...

In getting ready for the trip west we visited the site then Wally World, then the site then WW again.

All parents of newly turned 18 year-olds you all should be aware that they are now adults and their privacy is protected by your health insurer. I called to question bills that were substantially higher than we expected and was told she'd have to sign a waiver before they would release information about the bill they sent me in my name. You might want to call your company or check their website for the forms before your kid heads out and becomes otherwise occupied. Just another task for your lists!

Back to lurking.

SusanW-
I understand what you're saying. Honestly- the main idea is that information gets exchanged and thats what's happening :) I'm thrilled that group has taken off like it has. It's a great stress reliever for a lot of moms.
LOVE these kid's smiles- gosh could they get any bigger ?

From what I remember hearing, the fun thing with Marine week as the last week was that they got to use up all the ammo!

CherylwithaC: About my daughter missing CORTRAMID- yes, I think it has made it more difficult for her to decide. As of now she has never been on a sub, never spent time with the marines, etc. So she will have to make her decision without having any of those exposures. I find that frustrating and I know she does as well. The aviation part isn't an issue for her as that wasn't anything she was considering. On the other hand many in her unit were trying to help her feel better by telling her that there was a lot of "wasted" time in CORTRAMID. Waiting around, yada, yada. So out of a week at each thing- only a couple of days were really productive. She learned a LOT on this years cruise and she did say that by not going on CORTRAMID last year, things that other MIDs found boring she did not because they were new to her :)

I saw a comment about blisters- Kara was a rower so we dealt with a lot of blisters (Kay you prob. did too). Peroxide works well to toughen up the skin too.

Also, on another note:
When you have a topic that is more appropriate to post under a discussion topic please try to start it there. That way it is easier for people to look up the information in the future and follow it. Keeping the subjects together makes it a lot clearer and doesn't stretch the same thread over several pages of comments- Thanks :)

I have to laugh at the last few postings. My son came home from CORTRAMID with very little money. I asked him what on earth he could have spent his money on, since the Navy was paying for a place to sleep and his food! Now I realize he had plenty of opportunities :)

Cheryl, that is great! Tell your daughter to keep up the good work!

There are a lot of comments on here about daughters who call and want to quit. I can't say that my son did that, although he did call to vent, but at the beginning of his sophomore year when he had to sign on the dotted line, he was conflicted. I think the main reason was because he was unsure how we were dealing with his going into the Navy. So, it is very true that how parents respond effects what our children do. I told him he needed to do what he thought was best for him and not decide on what he thought others would think, including us. He did and has not looked back.
