Hi Kay M: I heard your son was working O-week this year :) Is he looking forward to that ? Can you believe the difference one year makes !!

I was so thankful that the unit let the group wear running shoes for training. It actually makes a lot of sense. Saves their feet and lets them focus on the tasks at hand - they still end up with enough problems with their feet is spite of wearing running shoes. During the year one of the marines told my daughter one trick they used to get their boots to fit better was to put them on and then get them wet in the shower and let them mold to their feet. I guess it helped a little (but you obviously can't do this if you don't have the boots ahead of time).

Thanks for the prayers Kay- hope we see you soon :)

Just wanted to pop in and say hello to everyone (again). It has been a while (again). :( I'm having fun reading through the CORTRAMID and OWEEK comments. My D finally got to get out on a cruise this year (yay) - she missed CORTRAMID last year but did get to go for her 2nd class cruise this year and loved it, LOL. I'm loving having her home the remainder of the summer and I can not believe she is going to be a junior. I'm not sure what has happened to the time. It's just shocking to me. She's also really psyched to be working at OWeek again this year. I've raised one crazy girl. :)

It is so nerve wracking in the beginning- I know how all you new moms are feelin'. Sometimes you will wonder how the military ever gets anything done. It can be a true trial of patience - your sense of humor is essential. Somehow it all does work out.

Several of you know all of my parents and parents-in-law had surgery over the past few months so I've been a little pre-occupied. Unfortunately my father is going back in for surgery in another week and my mom possibly will need more surgery in the upcoming months- ugh. So much for the "when it rains it pours" theory... I got the whole monsoon- yikes. Any prayers are appreciated so much. Thank you. Best of luck to your kids in the upcoming weeks. I am here though mostly I'm lurking :)
And remember ... they should be running, running, running and running some more. :D
All the best- Paulette

Susan W - my son went to CORTRAMID in Norfolk and spent his liberty time mostly with mids from other schools. He had a lot of fun and made new friends. I think he said a number of mids from his unit actually went to San Diego. I'm not sure why since he's at an East Coast school. In any event, he met people from Purdue, NC State, U-Nebraska, etc. It was a great experience for him!

Our list (Tulane) came early and had an iron, starch, ironing board, shoe polish, metal polish.. of course other things, but I had to laugh at that! They did tell us to make sure the running shoes were in good condition, but not brand new.

I didn't think about boot socks. Thanks UNM Sean's mom!

Oh, do I remember these times. Seems like only yesterday. Luke's Mama, one thing I've learned is that the Navy has their on timeline. That packet could get there the week before. That happened once with my son's "orders" for CORTRAMID, I believe. Came the week before he was to leave. We were all basketcases. Also, my son would tell you that no matter how accurate the measurements, especially for their "covers", you could have three different hats with the same size in them and none of them would be the same. Good luck with all this!

Hanksmom - we move our son in to Tulane on August 21st. So we have about a month. Tulane doesn't have an O-week like the other schools. I wish they did so that he could get familiar with the ROTC program and PT routine before having to deal with classes, but that's what they do there. I'm learning quickly to be flexible with all this.
I love reading all the comments about Cortramid. Also, it seems my son is a typical boy. I guess if we are lucky enough to have him go next summer I'll just get updates from one of you Moms :)

Sean's Mom,
My son is at CORTRAMID in San Diego right now too. He called last night to catch me up. He is finishing up sub week, and LOVED it. Marine week will depend on what company he is in. Brit does aviation next, Marines after that and finishes with Surface. So Sean's order will depend his company.

On a different note, nice to see somebody from UNM. My Dad and brother both went to school there.
