To Spensmom - thanks for the tip about hydration. My son is headed there next week!

To Megan - my son is Marine-option and they don't have a special rotation. He said that if he wasn't committed to the Marines he'd consider the sub contract. He got to go out on the midnight watch and said that he must have seen every star in the Northern Hemisphere. Between that and the plankton that light up neon green when the sub disturbs them...it's quite a light show!

Alaskan mom, If I remember correctly, my son packed everything in his sea bag. He wore his whites to travel. Maybe it's because he's a guy. Maybe I'm not remembering, though. :)

This is so much fun reading about the CORTRAMID experiences. Something for us to (hopefully) look forward to next summer. How different is it for the Marine Option group? Do they have the same 4 week rotation? or skip the sub?

Hello from NC the home of Camp Lejeune. Tell your sons and daughters at Marine week for Cort. East to stay hydrated. It is hot and humid here. Mid-90's at least not counting humidity. When my son was there several years ago, it was the same. They had them running the obstacle course in their cammie pants and t-shirt, heavy boots - not once but three times. Lots of folks on the sidelines with heat exhaustion.

Kay M., our sons must be on the same rotation. Mine was on the sub last week and had the same reaction - LOVED it! He also seems to be enjoying aviation so far. Next week is Camp Lejeune, and he's looking forward to it. What a great experience for these kids!

Lukesmama, I know how you feel - our son transferred his scholarship too and it's such a relief when everything is all done! Congratulations!!!!! Our son is at CORTRAMIDEAST and is in the middle of sub week...and having a blast. He enjoyed every minute of sub time, even if he couldn't fit his 6' 3" frame into the bed! He brought his laptop but forgot his camera cord so he can't post any pictures this week, but he called last night and gave us an abbreviated (some parts were confidential) rundown of the excursion. The excitement in his voice was evident! He's off to aviation training at the end of the week and we're looking forward to an update!

Maggie,
My son who just commissioned and is going to Hawaii told me that one of the Ens. just assigned to his ship who is female changed her mind and is going "subs". He also knows another new Ens. from NCState who is also going "subs". Because they have to go to school like NMXXXY says they won't actually be on the subs until next year.

Hang in there, Cheryl. Is she working out with weights at all? Upper body strength is always difficult for us females.
All the talk about CORTRAMID brings back memories and NavyMomXXXY is right about how quickly it goes! My son is still at his unit at UNC as of now but soon to head to Pearl.

CronusMom, sorry, I thought you meant you still had questions about what it does cover LOL! I assumed that because I know I had lots of questions when that first statement arrived!

Thank you so much DebE!!! I got the photos off my camera. Next is to figure out how to post them -- haha. As far as the detailed explanation, we just thought it would have been nice if the presenting Navy rep had spelled it out for the audience. The other branch reps offered more explanation with their presentations. Our son also received a Virginia Tech Emerging Leader scholarship toward R&B. Like you, we are on cloud nine -- I expect I will be for many years to come.
