Hi NROTC moms! I've been chuckling over your discussion about acronyms. I realized earlier today after reading an email from my son, I don't even know what his title means. I've been a Navy mom for 20 years... I still don't know. Anyone ever heard of an N5 STORM officer?

proudbutnervous.........I just want to add that at my son's school no one seems to care either about scholarship or not. I think it's more like, if you want to go Navy and work hard, you're accepted. Good luck!
Colleen - my son just got his also.......exciting times!!!

Glad to hear that! My son will definitely work hard and do more than his share. He doesn't seem too worried about how the college programmers are treated by the scholarship group---it is me that is worried that he might be looked down upon. He is determined to show them that he is serious about this. He has been through physically during his 4 years of high school. He tore one ACL his freshman year and the other ACL his junior year. He worked extremely hard to recover from those 2 surgeries and the doctor claims he is completely cleared for the Navy. After seeing his determination with those recoveries, I know that he can handle the physical requirements of the Navy training. From what you are all saying, it sounds like he will be fine.

My daughter just called today with her base and ship assignment! It's so exciting. She graduates in May, don't know yet when she reports to her ship but she is excited. My son PIR on 19MAR so soon I'll have 2 active duty sailors!!

Thank you all for all your insights! You all really DO rock! What a blessing you are to each other as well as to all the new moms. My son talked to the commanding officer at the university. this afternoon and made an appointment to see him when we are there. He mentioned that, in his words, "because of the economy, getting a scholarship is a lot more difficult than it used to be." However, he was encouraging and told him that it is not impossible. I will definitely have to look up the BDCP program. Thank you all for your insights and encouragement.

Thanks for the info. We are going to the university over his Spring break and will hopefully get more info then.

Changing the subject some, but I am in need of advice. Does anyone know how the college programmers are treated in the NROTC units? My son found out that he did not receive a scholarship but he is still very much interested in a Navy career. He intends to join through the College Program at Miami University. I am worried about how the college programmers are treated. Does anyone other than the commanding officers know who is there on scholarship and who is not? My son sees the Navy as his career choice and not just a way to pay for college. I am very proud of him for sticking by his dream and being willing to work extra hard to get noticed in the college program. Any ideas or suggestions?

Ok.......taking that breath now! :)

Welcome, Hanksmom. I have gotten some great advice here. It's really nice that the moms whose students have graduated have hung around to help.
