Becky,
My son has come and gone from Meridian, but pop in and out of this site to see how all are doing. There seems to be a backlog with sailors studying AZ, but not sure about YN and SK. What will your sailor be there for? If you haven't heard from him/her today, it shouldn't be long as he will want you to send his/her cell phone and lap top if he has one. There is not much to do in Meridian and some get down. My son was lucky as he only had to wait 2-3 weeks before his classes started so was out of there in 3 months. He is now in California and all is well. Best of luck to your sailor and tell him to keep a positive outlook on the whole process.
My daughter left GL on the 2 of Feb. I haven't heard from her yet but I live in Vicksburg only a couple of hours away. I hope to hear from her soon.
Merdian is the worst base in the Navy, in fact, all the old Navy guys imeadiatly feel badly for me when they hear where my sailoer is, and I talked to one guy who says Meridian has been bad for the 15 yrs. he's been in the Navy.
SO, since everyone knows this, and calls it the armpit of the Navy...or someother equally insulting name, that if the Navy cared at all, they would have done something about it. AND I am begining to wonder why NO one says or does anything...well we are all afraid our kids will suffer retaliation.
I think it's time Navy Moms did something or at least said something, but I'm still working that through.
Hey Becky,
Our Sailor got to Merididan yesterday and called. He had his cell phone that he was able to get into his seabag after he graduated Basic in GL. He said they had in processing today and have a red sticker so they do not have leave. Said that he has a bed with a matress rather than the foam pad he had in Basic. Also said the quarters are not too bad. He call and asked for his ipod and camera. So I sent them.
Take care the calls will come.
Suzann
