Hismomdeeship 7div 103: Congrats on your new sailor! So many of us know the excitement of PIR. It is wonderful! My son is at Meridian now too...he graduated (PIR) 3 weeks ago. They are on restrictions for a while...so your son will have to let you know when he can have liberty on the weekends. I believe there are different phases of it. But hopefully, you will be able to see him during spring break...a nice treat for him!

Hello, all. My son's PIR was 2/26 and he will be heading to Meridian on Tues. Has anyone gone to visit their sailor. I was wondering what the rules are for that. I wanted to plan a trip over spring break and stop there for a couple of days. I am looking forward to meeting all of you.

Sharon, I'm with you. My son is older too, and although he had lived 2 hours away for 1.5 yrs, we still saw him often. I too was ready for the separation. Not to say that I don't miss him, because I do. But he needed this...big time. Time to learn that he can't run to family for everything...has to figure it out on his own.

Sharon, My son is struggling some right now. He and school have always had a "hard" relationship...although he did manage to get his 2 yr college degree, which had us shouting from the mountaintops! I spoke to him last night...he is loving the social part of being there with everyone...but the school part has him frustrated. I just keep praying! So glad that your son is on task and has the end in sight! I bet in another week or maybe 2, he will receive his orders?

Yes, Sharon. He's a YN. Sounds like they may receive their orders as early as next week from what I've read from others on this site?

Hi, Sharon. Spoke to my son on Friday night from his cell which did arrive thank goodness. I'm sure your large box will get to your son soon...hopefully someone there can help him find it. My son told me that the "target date" for their class is March 12th. He said this teacher (if they are in the same class?) has over 20 yrs experience teaching there, has a PHD, and ishe s no nonsense. Surprise! They ARE in the MILITARY after all! HA! I told him that I can't imagine that they would all be done by then, but maybe there is another class for them after this one? I don't know. I was thinking that our guys would be home on leave by end of March or first part of April. Just a guess....

LOL yes! He has lost 10 more lbs since he has been there, guess he works out with both groups! Better him than me! LOL
Well, enjoy the coolness and the sunshine! Talk again soon, and Good luck to your son as well!

nancynavymom: Oh, ok. Now I understand. My son had told me that there were some Navy working out with the Marines at Meridian. That would be YOUR son. No, they aren't in the same classes, I wouldn't think. YN is Yeoman. Office/Admin. support. Glad you understand the HEAT in South Florida...it's not just the temps, its the 100 percent humidity! Melts the makeup off the face and frizzes the hair! HA! Good luck to your son!

Diannep, LOL I know what you mean about the heat, I live in southern IN now, but grew up in fla, in different cities, and it does get HOT! but this is for the birds up here! LOL And I'll be honest, I'm not sure what the initials YN stand for, I'm still learning the jargon! LOL He is (will be) an Airman in the Navy dealing with the planes that are landing on the ships, he told us there are 20 marines and 5 Navy in his class, if that helps any! LOL

Sharon, I am so sorry about your box saga, and have a feeling that mine may follow suit. Although mine is SMALLER, it was insured. Maybe that's the catch. Haven't talked to my son since Sunday (since his cell is in the BOX!) so don't know if his name is on the "mail" list yet. Should have arrived yesterday, but I know there are probably delays once it arrives on base before it is on the list for them. I wish there was something we could do to help you with this...but I guess we are all in the same boat! Keep us posted. I'm sure this happens ALOT so I know eventually your son will get it. Somehow, some way!
