tesla - you do need your son's division (after DDG 54) which you need to get from him.  Also the zip is 96683-1272.  Not sure if the last 4 would keep it from delivering.  I have never sent cards or letters - only packages - but I have never had one not deliver or returned.

The only other thing is his name needs to be title, last name, first name, middle initial but again - I can't imagine it getting returned.  USPS is only responsible for it until it gets to San Diego so it isn't making it to San Diego or it is getting rejected there before the Navy takes possession of it.  Sorry I can't be of more help!

please advise:

Cards I send to my son keep getting returned by usps. I have called them and they cannot tell me why. Anyone have experience with this? I really want to cheer him up. This is the address I'm using:

Just got a email from my son. He said he is going good and his ship life is easy and fun. He is half way done with his surface warfare pin. He also found a pic on the share drive with him in it. He is the one in the light blue jacket on the left.

Thanks willlosailormom. My son was so excited when when he first got to step on the ship to check it out. Then afterwards he said they have so many stairs. lol Then he said he only had to go down 1 set. I said wait until you have to go up and down all the time. I am sure he will make some new friends on the ship.

Thanks Ang- My son has been there for 2 months exactly today. He is shore duty but direct support so he can be assigned to any ship that needs him. The Wilbur is his 1st ship. He will be getting some on the job training here. He said none of the ships there have what he was trained on in C school. But he is a fast learner and will do great. He finished top of his class for both a and c school. He is loving Japan so far. Just doesn't like the indecifisness of some things. I reminded him of the Navy's motto of "hurry up and wait". LOL

My sailor also uses Tango & Text Me. It's great!

Willo - not sure if it's a good thng that your sailor already knows who mine is and hasn't met him.  LOL!!!

He is using APPs on his iPhone (TANGO and TEXT ME I think) and he calls and texts for free.

Glad you got an hour with yours.  That is such a great thing!!!  I will pass on the message from him to mine.  Thanks for sharing.

My son arrived in Japan and is loving it so far.  Called me at 1 in the morning and asked why I was sleeping in the middle of the day.  LOL  We are texting off and on already.  All the worry about communicating and he figured it out on his own in no time - I should have known.  Thanks for everyone's great info.  Keep posting - LOVE hearing about your sailors!
