Whether it is your son, daughter, wife, husband, boyfriend, cousin, brother, sister, mother, father, etc. that is away on a deployment, they all enjoy getting mail. It's a way that they can stay connected to family and friends. The most frequent response we get from the Sailors is that receiving mail from the home front is a huge morale boost!
SASSY is more than 80 moms strong with another 50 SASSY people (classrooms, teachers, civic groups, family, friends and just true blue Americans) who have come together to be a part of Sponsor A Sailor at Sea, Y'all (SASSY). We've made some excellent contacts on the Big E as well as the other ships in her carrier strike group, from the Ship's company to the airwing. And now the USS GHW Bush! Through the Chief's Mess, we receive names of junior sailors who are in need of support - from cards and letters to the occasional care package - and reminded that their service to the country and their personal sacrifices are appreciated, and that someone back home is thinking about that sailor.
Many sailors don't receive much, if any, encouragement from home. Sometimes its because the sailor is truly alone, or is estranged from his family, who may not be supportive of his/her decision to join the military, or perhaps because of the family's financial situation, it isn't possible to send the care packages that make life a little better.

Kathy - yes... we ship to Afan, Iraq etc... and funny because it seems to take longer to get to the boats hahah! about 6 weeks for some. Well, I bet my boys have gotten theirs by now and Im hoping for a letter back from at least one.
Lovemy - boys will be boys... hahahahah kids are kids no matter what age hahaha
I know ... Im praying for a letter too! even if not... just know that there is a BIG smile on their faces... too funny gummieworms... what kid does not LOVE those sista!! hahahahahaha
Oh and rememeber... do not box a box.... if you buy some chips, candy etc that are in a box... open them up and put them in your flat rate box... boxes take up space..... pour em out... they dont care... like trail mix... pbutter crackers... chips... one pack snacks etc...
Lydia - I'm smiling just thinking about it...I wrote out a card saying thank you and put candy in a box (gummieworms/super hero taffy/and small rubber fish toys)...hehhehhehe There were a few other items, but that was the 'fun' side. I sent a suduko puzzle book and a pack of dice also...it is amazing what you can fit in a little flat rate box! I'm hoping to get one out monthly.
Does anyone know when GHW Bush left for deployment? I do hope to get a return letter eventually, but if not, I will continue to send 'fun' boxes with a card of thanks for the service to our country and constitution - I really appreciate our men in the military as, I know you all do...
Hey yall!!!! Hey my friend Robin!!! soooo glad to see you sister! Well, according to my calculations my 3 Sailors should get their care packages sometime this or next week (takes about 4 - 6 weeks) in those boxes we included self addressed envelopes and paper. (silly me I put stamps on them too ??) Anyway... hoping like crazy to hear back from at least one of them!!!! maybe all three... we put letters from some of our retired Navy men and a photo of our group and of course the SASSY seal on the box actually several of them!!! I cant wait !!!
Its kinda sad I must share with yall.... our Rider (American Legion Riders) group have 2 big fund raisers each year which is what we use to do 12 months of care packages.... well... we have one coming up in end of September and all the store and shops that normally support us with auction or raffle items are turning us down... the economy and all the scare tactics or what ever... are causing them to turn us away... anyway... believe me... we will dig into our own pockets (which we often do anyway) to buy the stuff we need and mail these boxes... its just sad.... so prayer request... anyway... hauling those boxes to the Post Office make us feel soooooooo great inside and each kid gets at least 2 boxes each.. enough to share ... okay sooooo big hugs and Ill let yall know as sooon as we hear anything... We had a lot of kids to send to last month including the three that Carole gave us...
