GMom about a week.  It's the first thing they are made to do.  It's a form letter with a little line on the bottom where they right the address.

Helen, did you wait for him to leave the recruiters?  I remember that day like it was yesterday. It's been 3yrs. Glad you're ok so far.

There is never any hoopla. Just very laid back. When my son left I brought him to the recruiters 5pm. cried my eyes out he got in their car and left. He stayed at a hotel for the night at MEPS and left the next day.  Being a resourceful kid he managed to find someone in the lobby and asked to use their cell phone.  He called us to gave the hotel and his room number so we could call back and  talk to him.

Maria, the first few weeks are the worst for us parents. Missing them and not knowing how they are doing.  Pretty soon you'll be waiting for the mailman every Thursday to read his letter.  They are only allowed to write on Sunday so by the time the letters get here it's Thursday.  They can receive mail any day thought.  So start writing, get funny card. cut out comic strips. what ever you can think of to bring a smile to his face. This will give you something to do and you'll have them ready to mail when you receive the letter with his address. Trust me it brightens up their day.

I know what you mean.  For some reason I thought your son was leaving March 3rd. wonder how I came up with that?
Comment by CTmomof3 on March 6, 2011 at 4:43pm

Valtameri, wasn't he suppose to leave the 3rd,why did it change?

My son took nothing with him the day he left. It was very sad to watch him walk out of the house with just the cloths on his back. The only thing that didn't come back in "the box" was his wallet.  It was driving me nuts for weeks as to why his pants were rolled up. The cloths were folded neatly and socks tucked into shoes. Ryan got his calling cards, stamps and paper at the NEX. I never sent any it was easier he said.  In two months i'll be in that boat again. sniff sniff.
