I got a letter from Steve. He has been very sick and tested positive for mono.. He was running 103 degree fever and has lost his voice. His eyes are blood shot and his face was puffy for the pictures. He is trying to keep going so that he doesn't get 'set back'. His fever has finally lowered. He supposedly had mono. 3 years ago. He should have been immune! He told me about them losing the phone call. He was not going to get a call anyway because he had to stand watch for the others since he had no voice in which to talk. We have only gotten one call since the first night but he has been good about writing.
Congratulations Mickee on the birth of your granddaughter!!

Congrats on all the letters!

We also recieved a very encouraging letter from Michael today! Micheal ran on his cross country team and he was out in the freezing cold weather every day after school even when the temps were below freezing. He also ran at park as well in the mornings and late at night after the temps had gotten pretty cold. So, I think Michael had that advantage being on the cross country team and being athletic. The cross country team did a lot of excercising before they ran at practice, so they were strectched out good and to avoid shin splints, etc. Oh, he did get them from time to time and he used to sit in ice bath to try to heal them before a race! Their runs were 3 miles long and he ran those in 23 or 24 minutes. He wasn't the star or the best but he never gave up and NEVER quit! I thought that Michael had wrote us his scorces on the first (I know he did) PFA, but I went through all his letters and I can't find the first set of scores - he has improved though. He hasn't said anything about his breathing while running.

2nd PFA
78 situps
64 push ups
11.55 1.5 mile run

He says in this letter that his final PFA is on 22nd of January which was yesterday. He was going to try to do it under 11:00.

He has informed us that his DIV 075 is grad n go. What a bummer! We are going to make the best of our time with him though. He says that he will still get liberty on Friday after graduation and he flys out the next morning. He says his DIV got the drill flag and penant which means they can march by themselves. He said they took their 2nd test and got a 4.58 out of 5:00 and earned them the red penant. He said he really hasn't lost much weight, but he feels like he has. He said he got their stripes and collar devices. He got his E-2 because he passed his tests and his first PFA. He says that it's official now. He says he will be graduating with two green stripes! I am so proud of him! He said that they are a CNO HONOR DIV so far, and if they have the TOP score ship they will get HALL of FAME which he says is a VERY high honor for this base, and the ship. He said if his DIV gets HALL Of FAME they will get two extra hours of Liberty on Friday and instead of having to be in at 9pm, it will be 11pm.

Michael said Test 3 is on Monday, January 25 and battle stations is on the 28th and 29th Of January and then after that they have a week to relax. He said he will be calling that week and also that he would be able to get on a computer. He was looking forward to that! Michael drew a calendar with the month of January on the back of our letter! He included what he had left and when he was doing each event. He was supposed to call "yesterday"(1/16/10), but their phone call got cancelled because someone on ship staff in their div sprayed another recruit and they got sick so their call was cancelled he said! It sounds like they think they are at camp and can play practical jokes on each other, lol! Well, they ALL got punished for it! Darn!

Well, that is the bulk of Micahel's letter! Hope to hear about your calls and letters too!

Good Afternoon Ladies! No letter today for us! :( Hopefully we'll hear from Michael soon either by phone or letter again! I really didn't expect another letter today, but it would have been nice.

14 Days until we fly to Great Lakes!! Woo Hoo! 15 days until we can hug our son!

Mickee, hope that baby comes soon! Does your daughter in law live with you?

Thank you for the warm welcome! Steve is on Ship 04 Div. 075. My husband and I will be coming to PIR but our flight will not arrive until 8:30 pm on 2/4/10. I look forward to meeting you at grad.. I've gotten several letters from Steve and have gotten a kick out of him ironing his underwear in the middle of the night, etc.. We have only gotten one phone call since his initial night "I'm here" call.
