My daughter is in RCU for stress fractures in both shins. After talking to her this past Sunday, she said she was given the option to finish BC while in RCU. Does anyone have info on what happens, does she have to be FFD before completing tasks, does she still have PIR? I am all for her shaving off time being there even if it means sacrificing PIR! They get so sad, depressed, and pessimistic while in RCU. I just want my bubbly, goofy daughter back. I know they are in good hands there but it seems to suck the life out of them. Any info would be helpful, cause I have searched for the answers everywhere :) Prayers to all the SR's and Sailors out there!

San Diego is about 2 hours away, so it's not too bad really. He's super anxious to have access to his truck again. He surprised us with a visit home over Labor Day weekend, and he just wanted to drive everywhere since he hadn't driven since leaving last October -- LOL!!
Be sure to let us know where Patrick ends up. Garrett was asking me if I still kept in touch with you and what Patrick was up to, so now I'll have an answer for him. (I told him I wasn't doing the best job of keeping in touch with you ladies, but I'm trying to be better...)
Take care, Karen!!

Hi again Janet,
So glad to hear you are that close to where Garrett will be! That's like every Navy Mom's dream come true. Right now Patrick is about 6 hours away from our home, and I thought I was lucky!!!
Yes, let's try to keep in touch! It's so nice to know our boys have endured, prospered and grown stronger for their RCU experience. Please also let me know when your youngest leaves, as I will most definitely lift prayers for him!
Have a GREAT weekend!
Karen
My son has been in RCU for two weeks (as of today) with stress fractures in both his legs -- one ankle and one foot. When he called us with his new address (two weeks ago), he sounded so discouraged but unwilling to give up. "I don't have any other choice than to stay until I'm finished." We haven't heard from him since a 15-minute phone call the Sunday before last. I have written him every day...but no letter from him last week (probably because we talked on that Sunday) and, so far, no letter this week. *SIGH* My last three letters have included paragraphs about how much I need to hear from him that he is okay. I understand "no news is good news" but I need to hear from HIM. It is so comforting that all of you understand that. He will be 21 in November. He was due to PIR on 9/28. I would happily support a decision for him to complete BC in RCU, even though we had already purchased tickets for PIR. Southwest has credited those tickets to our account, and we have a year to use them. I sure wouldn't mind seeing South Carolina...where he will be for A School. *another sigh* I know I am rambling a little, but I must say, my prayers are with the moms/families and their sons and daughters on the ships in Libya. If my husband would let me, I believe I would wear only Navy clothes...I am so proud...but we have three other children... :) GO NAVY! :)
Thank You all so much for all your inspiring stories and information. It is so nice to have people who understand what we are all going through. Especially the veterans who's SR's are out of RCU, it brings me to tears thinking about all the moms who have been so supportive over the last two months to each other! I have made some great friends(even though we havent actually met, lol) thoughout this journey. Also, congrats to my daughters former division who graduated today DIV 289!! Im writing my daughter now and relaying the inspirational stories, it gives her hope. RCU moms ROCK :)

Hi navyknit22 - your son was AIT while in RCU and was allowed to participate in a PIR? Was he Fit for Duty and Fit for Travel? I'm trying to figure things out with my SR.
Thanks!
barbydahlz...What great news!!! It has truly been a while. I am so happy for you and your sailors. I know it has been a long 4 months. Ours finished A school in July and is now in Bahrain. Won't see him for 3 years according to his orders, but he can call and we email often. Ours was able to come home for 17 days before leaving. After that, it was a long 5 days before we were able to hear from him. The flight took 2 days. Enjoy your visit. It will pass quickly so take advantage of every moment.
Hugs and Prayers.
navyknit22..Congratulations!! I know exactly the excitement and jubilation you are feeling right now. Your plans will come together, I know. Praying for safe travel and a wonderful visit!! Hugs and Prayers
Andikeesi...PIR date was such a somber day here. Our hearts just ached because we knew he was in RCU and his division graduated Hall of Fame. We were heartbroken to say the least, but at the same time we celebrated with his division for the honor they received. This group of ladies is wonderful. The only way I kept my sanity was the ladies here and lots of prayers from everyone we know. Keep the faith. We will be praying for you and your daughter.
Jolene... I think we were all mailbox stalkers. Our day was Thursdays. I couldn't wait to get home that day because I just knew there would be a letter. Then, on days one didn't come I was devastated. On Friday, I would go to work and everyone would ask, "What did he say today". They were just as disappointed as I was it seemed. I am a teacher and we have about 60 on our staff. What was even more wonderful was they would share with their churches and we had several that adopted him, held prayer groups for him and even wrote to him. When he was able to come home in July, we visited all the churches and his reception was awesome!!! It was an experience I'm not sure how to describe. Between the ROCK'IN RCU Moms, our churches, and family we had a SUPER support group. Hugs and Prayers to you. Keeping you in ours.
