My SR went to medical on October 31st, it was only for 2 weeks, that is what he told us. He hurt his ITB band, It that usally right? When will we find out about graduation? What is phase 2 I have seen that on here and do not know what that is. We got a call two Sundays ago but nothing last sunday. How often do they get to call? We get letters once in a blue moon but it seems to be news we already know. Sometimes, I just want to say HOLD it lets talk about this but we never have enough time. Any advice???
USNmom... It is a hurry up and wait kind of situation. I don't know what ITB band is, but our SR broke his fibula. He went in just over 4 weeks ago. According to him, there are 4 Phases. He just went in to Phase 2 where he has begun Physical Therapy and minimal training to build him back up to par. He will not be graduating with a division, but will complete his BC in RCU. The upside to that is they are monitored more closely while they complete their training. Whether your SR goes back to a division or finishes in RCU depends on several things. One is how far he was in his training, how serious the injury is and whether a division comparable to his classification is coming through when he finishes his recovery. Our SR was given a choice, but there isn't a division coming through before January that he can rejoin. He chose to finish in RCU. We are sad he won't participate in PIR, but we are more concerned that he heals properly and is able to keep his contract and they will monitor his recovery as he finishes his training. I am still learning, but that is what I know so far. Phone calls are few and far between while we have been here. We have received two. One when he went in and one about the same time as you. We do receive a letter every week that we are very grateful to get. I understand that if someone gets in trouble, they lose their phone privileges. Just know that he is in good hands and they are taking care of him. All I can say is Lots and lots of prayer. Shower him with cards and letters. Let him know how proud you are of him because he will begin to feel like he has let everyone down. Join the discussions, the ladies here are wonderful and a great support. I couldn't have made it this far without them. We will pray for your SR. I imagine ours knows yours since they went in not very far apart.
Thank you so so much! That was the best advise I have gotten. My SR went in on Halloween or that is when I got the call and he told me he was hurt. My SR goes to pre-buds after BC where does yours go? I am sure they know each other. My SR talks to everyone. The ITB band is a large muscle that runs from the knee up the outside of the thigh into the hip and circles though and back down to the knee. We have been getting letters and it just seemed he did not know much. Will they get to come home for Christmas? My son thinks he will. Where was your son in BC when he got hurt. My SR was in week 3 towards the end of it. Thank you again
You are so very welcome. He goes to A school in GL. He will then transfer to Eglin. We were in hopes he would be able to come home for Christmas, but it is looking more like he won't . He was week 4 day 4 when he went in, but the injury was such he will need more time to heal before he can make his runs. He has two left. He is working on all the other training that does not require alot of stress on the leg and is in physical therapy. He was able to get the brace off and off crutches this past week. We are still praying. Many prayers have been answered for him, so I haven't given up hope that he will make it home. Praying for your SR and you. It is truly a difficult process, but he will be a better sailor for it, I think.
