I'm loving the Christmas stories. It seems like everyone got to talk to their son.

I was telling my family how different and mature my son sounds now. He sounded happy, energetic, and just down right wonderful. It made me feel so good even though I only got to talk to him about 3 minutes.

@j'smom - My son was always particular about his clothes. He ironed everything and wiped his shoes off before he put them on. However, when it came to his bedroom and his bathroom, they were a complete mess. My cousin came over the other day and she couldn't believe how clean his bathroom was. She said wasn't used to not seeing drawers on the floor...lol. I'm hoping that will change about him. He did tell me in a letter that it was his job to clean the sinks everyday, so hopefully his cleaning habits have improved.

There are lots of pics on facebook of the sailors coming out to meet their family. If your recruit was adopted for Christmas you may see pics in this album.  The page is called US Navy Recruit Training Command. The first photo album was Adopt a Sailor Christmas 2010.

Then the you tube video about where they are living during boot camp.

Christmas was very nice.  I feel for those of you who couldn't go to GL, but also happy you got to hear their voice thru the phone.

It was really neat to see them all march up to the building in sync. All dressed in long black coats, black hat (probably not the word they call it), and white scarfs.  Their uniform for the day was black pants with a tan button up shirt with a white tee under it, shiny black buckle, shiny black shoes.  My son was very proud of the shine on his shoes.  They apparently work hard to get a good shine that almost looks like glass.  He spilled a drop of coffee on his tee shirt as soon as we got him back to the hotel.  He immediately got a damp towel, cleaned it and then ironed his shirt again.  I could not believe my eyes.  Him ironing! lol! They are maturing at a super fast rate right now, and it's so apparent.  They way he talked, walked, carried himself, etc.  He showed me a you tube video that was super cool that you all should check out.  It showed what the rooms that they eat, sleep, work out, swim, ect in look like. Ill try to find it and I'll post the name of the video.  Gives ya a visual of how they live in boot camp.  It was hard to find things to do on Christmas cause everything is closed.  We went to a movie about 3pm. I asked him what he wanted to see, he says, I have no idea what any of these movies are about, I haven't seen a tv in 5 1/2 weeks. And being in the car, same thing.  It's interesting to see how they change when they are taken completely out of society. Turning the corner in the hotel he turned very 90degree turn like he was marching.  I commented on it and he says he's gotten so used to doing it he doesnt' realize he's doing it.  Then of course the hard part, was taking him back.  But I am very thankful to have got to have him with us for the whole day that I really shouldn't complain but it was just like letting him go the first time when he left for boot camp.

Now bring on PIR!!! It's not that far away now!

Finally made our hotel reservations for graduation.  We will be staying at the Navy Lodge.  Not sure what time we will get there on Thursday because we will be driving.  We are planning to attend the Meet and Greet Thursday night.  Cannot wait to meet everyone

Yea, I also got my phone call today.  My son didn't want to wait in the long lines and only talk for a few minutes so he went and found a pay phone and called collect and we got to talk for almost an hour.  It was the best xmas gift I could've ever gotten.  He sounds so good he said his rdc's nominated him to compete in an awards ceremony against 12 other recruits out of the 960 that are there.  He was so happy but also very nervous.  Only 5 awards are given out,  anyway he ended up winning the navy league award. I am so proud of how hard he is working he said that their division has earned a flag for everything they have tested on.  We have a great group of kiddo's, lol.  They have their second big test on monday, it is on everything you'll ever need to know about the navy.  I asked him how in the heck do you memorize all of that so quickly and he said "it's my job mom, I either do it or I'm out, so I do it!"  It's so amazing how he sounds so grown up and responsible.  I can already hear the changes in his voice when we talk.  Oh btw he said that someone took his pic while he was in indiana and they told him to have me look on n4m's? Did anyone else hear anything about these pic's or where they are on here?? Oh and we are also staying at the ramada inn, I can't wait to meet all of you at the meet and greet.  We are driving from texas but plan on taking the shuttle from the ramada also cause we heard the line was way to long for cars to get through security.

I got my call today too, but it was too rushed.  It seemed like it only lasted about 5 minutes.  He sounded tired and said that it seemed strange to get to walk around and talk because he wasn't used to that anymore.  I wanted to talk longer to hear more but it was a fast conversation.  I'm just glad that I got to hear his voice.

Christmas Day phone call! Anyone else??? He said it was part of the Adopt-a-Sailor program (I didn't do the paperwork, tho?) and they were at the First Baptist Church in Hammond, IN! They were being fed and given phones to use! Sounded very nice!

Finally got a letter after 2 weeks.  In between the jokes, he told me that his paperwork that stated A school was going to be 45 days was incorrect and that it is actually 20 weeks.  I have come to the conclusion that he is never going to leave Great Lakes and will be spending his entire career there.

@pinkaboo-we will also be at graduation.  If you need anything, let us know.
