I'm loving the Christmas stories. It seems like everyone got to talk to their son.
I was telling my family how different and mature my son sounds now. He sounded happy, energetic, and just down right wonderful. It made me feel so good even though I only got to talk to him about 3 minutes.
@j'smom - My son was always particular about his clothes. He ironed everything and wiped his shoes off before he put them on. However, when it came to his bedroom and his bathroom, they were a complete mess. My cousin came over the other day and she couldn't believe how clean his bathroom was. She said wasn't used to not seeing drawers on the floor...lol. I'm hoping that will change about him. He did tell me in a letter that it was his job to clean the sinks everyday, so hopefully his cleaning habits have improved.
There are lots of pics on facebook of the sailors coming out to meet their family. If your recruit was adopted for Christmas you may see pics in this album. The page is called US Navy Recruit Training Command. The first photo album was Adopt a Sailor Christmas 2010.
Then the you tube video about where they are living during boot camp.
Christmas was very nice. I feel for those of you who couldn't go to GL, but also happy you got to hear their voice thru the phone.
It was really neat to see them all march up to the building in sync. All dressed in long black coats, black hat (probably not the word they call it), and white scarfs. Their uniform for the day was black pants with a tan button up shirt with a white tee under it, shiny black buckle, shiny black shoes. My son was very proud of the shine on his shoes. They apparently work hard to get a good shine that almost looks like glass. He spilled a drop of coffee on his tee shirt as soon as we got him back to the hotel. He immediately got a damp towel, cleaned it and then ironed his shirt again. I could not believe my eyes. Him ironing! lol! They are maturing at a super fast rate right now, and it's so apparent. They way he talked, walked, carried himself, etc. He showed me a you tube video that was super cool that you all should check out. It showed what the rooms that they eat, sleep, work out, swim, ect in look like. Ill try to find it and I'll post the name of the video. Gives ya a visual of how they live in boot camp. It was hard to find things to do on Christmas cause everything is closed. We went to a movie about 3pm. I asked him what he wanted to see, he says, I have no idea what any of these movies are about, I haven't seen a tv in 5 1/2 weeks. And being in the car, same thing. It's interesting to see how they change when they are taken completely out of society. Turning the corner in the hotel he turned very 90degree turn like he was marching. I commented on it and he says he's gotten so used to doing it he doesnt' realize he's doing it. Then of course the hard part, was taking him back. But I am very thankful to have got to have him with us for the whole day that I really shouldn't complain but it was just like letting him go the first time when he left for boot camp.
Now bring on PIR!!! It's not that far away now!
Finally got a letter after 2 weeks. In between the jokes, he told me that his paperwork that stated A school was going to be 45 days was incorrect and that it is actually 20 weeks. I have come to the conclusion that he is never going to leave Great Lakes and will be spending his entire career there.
@pinkaboo-we will also be at graduation. If you need anything, let us know.
