I might be able to decorate some for Christmas now.  All that I've done is to hang out a Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Christmas flag.  Tonight I'll be able to fall asleep without worrying myself with all of the nagging fears I was having.  My son was also somewhat of a class clown and I was hoping that he would step up to the plate of responsiblity and handle this experience maturely.  It sounds like he's doing what I was hoping he would do.   After tonight's phonecall I can say a loud "Phew" and give a sigh of relief.  Thanks to all of you other moms for sharing your news from your sons.  It's nice to know that other moms understand how tough this can be.

I'm so glad to hear that everyone is getting their calls.

Here's a virtual toast to us all... *raising my virtual glass*... May we all go to bed at a decent hour tonight and get a peaceful night's rest....finally.

So good to hear from my son.  Sounds like we all got that much needed call.  Like all of yours, he was homesick, and wore out, but sounded pretty good overall.  I can finally relax!  I am going to sleep good tonight.  :)

What a blessing today has been. My son sounded exhausted and hes sick too. So much info to put in such a short phone call. Said they will get to call again before Christmas. Said he is doing good though, but this is the toughest experience he has ever been through. lawd I miss him so very much...

I just got my call too!!!  I got his letter today as soon as I got home so I was already on cloud 9, but then I got his call tonight and I'm beyond cloud 9.  I was a pathetic wreck yesterday after work and cried all the way to my eye doctors appt. It wasn't good timing to have bloodshot eyes and a red face, but I made it through the eye exam.  Then I cried on the way home.  God answered my prayers because I told him that I couldn't wait much longer.  My son sounded so good and he was very upbeat and positive about his experience even though he said it was one of the hardest things that he's ever experienced.  He said that he's good friends with a red headed guy that he flew up from NC with on the plane.   I'm so glad that he's adjusting.  This experience has been harder for me than him. I'm glad that I found this group to type to because I had stopped typing and was pretty depressed while waiting anxiously for a letter or call.  I think that I can make it now and life is once again good.   Thank you Lord!

One more thing my son said that was funny... His bunk mate is from Kentucky and has a friend back home he says he's going to "fix up" my son with . He saw her picture in his wallet and my son said she was cute, but he "didn't know how that was going to work out".

@surfermom - my son said he thought the RDC didn't like him much. I told him he was only doing his job and not to take anything personal. He did say it's getting better now and that he's starting to get used to the routine.

Oh my!!! Just got a very nice call from my son!!! He sounded good, homesick, tired, but doing ok! He's sick though and won't tell anyone because he's afraid it will be a mark against him! It was so good to hear from him! Passed all his tests so far! I feel like I can finally relax after 3 agonizing weeks! Yes, life is definately good again.
