I'm still on cloud 9 about my phone call too, especially because I wasn't expecting it. I've realized that the less I hope and pray for a call the more excited I am when it comes! But I also feel like phone calls and letters are a drug, once I get one I want more lol.

My husband seemed to be doing pretty good, but very irritated with the young kids that just can't shut up when told too. He said they don't have that great of a division because of that reason, and they don't come together like they should be. Everyone in the division failed personal and bunk inspection and he said only a few passed their physical, my husband didn't because the Navy was a very last minute decision and had 3 weeks before leaving for boot camp. So his workouts were very limited, but now their doing PT 5 times a week and he feels very confident about the next one. He also said they had an academic test and he passed that with flying colors. He was very siked about that, but still mad that he didn't pass his physical or inspection. Brighter side is, he's there for the long run and also said that once you're there for a month you're there to stay!

Thursday's are normally my mail days, and I try my hardest not to get excited for that too so if there isn't a letter I don't get down lol. Their able to receive mail every night but only send out on Sundays. Don't know if I'm forgetting anything so if I remember I'll add later.

Hope this helps KDB1

My son did not know either when they are leaving for nuclear A school they do not find out until later.  This week, the nuke candidates meet with the nuclear coordinator, they learn more about the nuclear ratings and what they do, they interview them and answer questions, and that is when they get a chance to  choose which nuclear rating they want: electronics technician (ET), electricians mate (EM) or machinist mate (MM).  But choose is not the right word, the final pick comes from the Navy.   They will find out later what assignment he  got.   They told him that when he enlisted as a nuke: on their contact it just says Nuclear Field, then in boot camp they pick what rating you get.  My son is already tight-lipped which is a good habit for that line of work.  Once they get to Goose Creek they cannot  talk about work,  so we might as well get used to not asking LOL.

I am still reeling from the phone call too Crazee Kat!  :) So very good to hear his voice.   I have gotten 2 letters so far and both of them were dated right after Christmas!  And they were delivered on the same day! :(  I hope the mail can get through by Thurs.  I am more bummed that my SR won't be able to get MY letters that I have written this week!  I have been sending good vibes to him instead...hope he is getting those! :)

My son me he had sent 3 letters (this was on the phone Friday), but I have only received one... he is not much of a writer, but am still "UP" because of his call, was soooo good to hear his voice.

I heard from a Navy JROTC Captain that Laundry PO was actually a good job, he said noone wants to mess with them because they want their laundry clean!  Just thought I would pass that on to those of us who learned they had laundry PO last week!

One month down, one to go!  (ps the Captain said if he has been there a month he is there to stay!)

Yes....my son is NUKE.  The only thing that I know is that he will be going to Charleston for A school.  I don't know when he will depart after BC.  I am not sure of how long he will be there???? So many questions.....but still a lot of time to get them answered! :)

KDB, Is your son/daughter a nuke too?

William, Thanks for the info.  I had heard the count of 62 too.  My son did say that they had and would probably get more of the people held back since their division was on the small side.  All I heard about showers was that they were extreemely short.  Today should be 3-2.  I didn't hear about the nuke coordinator.  Maybe they will get some more information, he had no clue of when he started nuke school when I talked to him last week.

Thanks for the info William!  Always good to hear "whats going on"  Glad they are getting hot showers! :) I really know nothing about the "next step" with "Nukes".  I guess I need to do some reading. :)  Thanks again for info....Hope all stay warm and dry!

My son called my wife before he called me.  He told her they are down to 62 people in the division.  She asked if he is used to boot camp he said yes, he doesn't like it but he can take it.  He is making friends in the division that has never been a problem, he is a very sociable person not a loner type.  I had read somewhere that the division was not allowed to take hot showers for a few weeks, and asked about that but he said no Dad I have been able to take hot showers since I got here.  He thought the question was amusing.   He had hurt his foot and got an infection, got treated for it and was fine, and did not lose any time over it and was keeping up with everything.  Maybe he got blisters, which has got to hurt. He did not tell his mother about it.  My son was getting over a cold which they all get.  He said this will be  week 3 and later this week he will meet with the nuclear coordinator but when I asked anything else he said "Later, Dad" twice making me assume they are not supposed to talk about it so I got the message and quit asking.  He did not sound too tired and did not sound in a down mood, he said it was tough and he was going along with it.  He asked my wife for the recruiter's number but she did not have it so I gave it to him and he was going to call and say hi to the recruiter.

Nothing here in Texas either.  It is cold here too but no snow.  I do enjoy hearing about everyone's letters and calls.  My son doesn't write the volume of letters that some kids write.  I am thankful for any news from you'all.  PIR is in a month!
