Ship 11/180 Moms AFTER Bootcamp

Moms/Wives of 11/180:  We were great support for each other during boot camp.  Let's keep in touch and update each other on how our sailors are doing.  PIR was awesome, but liberty was too short.

Hi everyone.  So glad to hear that all the Sailors are doing well.  Jeff is now in ATT (Advanced Technical training), he has about 21 days till he starts STRAND.  No word as to where he will be going yet. He is an Electricain's Mate.  He will be staying at GL till October.

I have to say we have some very special Sailors!!

Glad to hear all the moms are doing well also.

Hi, so nice to hear from you. It sounds like ship 180 is doing good....no surprise there! They were a great team in BC, as were we!

My son completed BESS (basic submarine school) at the end of July and my husband and I flew from CA to CT to attend the graduation. It was really nice and much more lowkey than PIR. They actually stopped to let you take pictures as they received their certificates. The admiral from Bangor, WA was one of the presenters. My son is now in ATT, then TCNO, which are technical schools (basic electronics, then network administration). These last about 4 weeks each and are self-paced, with a trainer available. Then he will begin A school for submarine navigation (ET-NAV). I'm not sure how long that lasts - I think 6-9 months. A lot depends on how fast they class up. After that, there could be a C-school for further training. We (and he) are hoping that he eventually will get deployed on the west coast so that we can see him more often. Conneticut is beautiful. We were able to spend the weekend with him and go to some of the beaches and local attractions. We went to Mystic Seaport which was absolutely gorgeous - just what you would think of the New England coast.

My best to you all. I think of you often with a warm heart and appreciation for your being there for (with) me through a really tough time. It is still tough sometimes, but he is happy. We Skype with him at least once a week, as well as text and emails. It helps alot. I guess we will never stop missing them.

Hooyah!

Hi all, It's hard to believe that has been almost 3 months since they graduated boot camp. My guys are still here in GL, and I just happen to be here visiting with them this weekend, along with my youngest son Matt's gf. Wehave been able to visit a few times, as we live north of Detroit. Pat will be doe here around the 26th also, and will come home for a week or so before going out to San Diego. He has heard that it won't be too long before he will be deployed also. Matt will be here, he thinks, till around October, and has not received his orders yet. It would really be great if he is sent to San Diego too, but I'm sure that would be pretty unlikely. Best of luck to Brandon on deployment. Take care.

Hey Moms.  How is everybody doing so far?  It's been almost 3 months since they graduated boot camp and now they are really in the Navy.  Ben is supposed to finish A School on 8/26 and start C School, still at Dam Neck, right away.  How amazing Brandon is already on a ship.  Anybody else done with school?  It is weird but I think of each of you from time to time.  Boot camp seems like a distant memory but it was so important to me to be on Navy 4 Moms at that time.  I noticed on the RTC facebook page they have done away with random photos.  Bummer.  I remember how excited we all got when they posted a photo of our guys in the classroom.  Please say hello when you can and best wishes to your sailors.

Well Brandon is finaly back to the ship!! After a some not so great events ugggg. He bought a new car, was driving it to my house and the back wheel came Off..thank God no one was comeing and he did not hit anything...then he had the wheel put back, he was told that was not best it could come loose again because the wheel was messed up...he went to Norfolf reported, got Erica on med and got her ID card, he was told he could drive her back home and report back on monday. well he decided to wait untill the very last min to go back. was about an hr down the rd and he said it felt like the wheel was comeing off again and felt he was loosing controle and went to the side of the highway. he called us at 2am, he had a friend come to get him and he came all the way back here to get his father-in-laws extra car. he called the ship and was told to report 6am tomorrow. and again he has waited untill late to go back. I just talked to him and he should be there in about an hr. UGGG what do we do with them?? will they ever grow up??? Also he spent all his money and racked up his credit card???? I had to give him some money for gas to get back!!! I WILL NOT give him another dime....he tells me he will pay us back...ya right...

Congratulations OMG, It's been a while since I've been on Navy for Moms. My husband and I camp in the summer. We just got back from the Erie Island's area. (by Cedar Point). Our boys were friends in BC. I'm  Patrick and Matt's mom. Hopefully they still keep in contact. Anyway both of my guys are still in GL's for A school. Pat should be home for leave by early September, we think. Matt may be there until October. We are all anxious about where they will be stationed. Best of luck to your son and his new wife!

Well Brandon Thornburg and Erica Thornburg got married yesterday! I thought they were going to keep it a secret untill the real "wedding" when he gets back from his first deployment but they just could not keep it in!!!  Please help me pray for them and thier new life together as Hubby and Wiffy! May God Bless them in every way! She will stay home when he gets back from his first deployment.

Hi Laurel-yes my son is in Groton. He is doing great. He also has duty today. Said he had to hoist the ensign (colors) up the flagpole. I told him that I hoped the ensign wasn't too heavy! He sAid they try to find a skinny one, but it doesn't always work out. So glad he still has his wonderful sense of humor! Nice talking with you all again.

Thank those that have served and are serving, for today we are celebrating our independence.

Great weekend with Jeff, he's back at GL for watches.

Amtrak was a disaster this weekend.  His train was 3 hours late on Friday night and over an hour last night, but I am so thankful I got to spend time with him and 2 other Sailors.  Hope everyone is having a great 4th of July.  I miss not chatting every day.
