Hi I need help..new to the site. My daughter graduates Friday and I am so lost...I leave Weddnesday to fly into O'hare. My husband and my other daughter (her twon) fly in Thursday. Shuttles are so expensive from the aiport and renting a car is out of the question..How can we get to our hotel ? Does anyone have ride shares etc?? We spent so much money on the air tickets and what we will be paying for the hotel, that there is money left over for food and very little for transportation. I would even be willing and so would my husband and daughter the next day to pay for someones gas to get to the hotel. Any ideas? Suggestions etc???

Dear Candace,

I am flying in to O'hare on Thursday morning also.  I will be using public transit and following these directions I found on the internet:

My flight arrives shortly after 8 AM, if you are coming in that early please let me know, we can arrange to meet and travel together.

You can take an Airport Express shared van to Great Lakes (see related links) for about $40.

For public transportation:
1) Take the Airport Transit System (ATS) to the Kiss-n-Fly area in Parking Lot E.
The ATS is boarded one level above the ticketing level over the outside roadways. Just follow the overhead signs to the ATS or ask someone how to get to the "People Mover."

2) Wait in the Kiss-n-Fly area for the Pace 250 Dempster bus. The bus runs every 20 to 30 minutes 7 days a week. Deposit $1.75 into the fare box. If you deposit too much, you will not get any change back. No credit cards accepted.

3) Ride the bus to the end of the line at the Davis Street CTA station in Evanston. Two sets of railroad tracks run through that block. The bus lets you off on the east side of the block (Benson Avenue). Walk around the block to the west side of the block (Maple) and walk up to the Metra station. Do not board at the CTA station. If the station has fare gates, you are at the wrong station. If you are in doubt, ask someone "Where is the Metra station?"

4) Take a northbound train to the Great Lakes stop. Fare is $4.50. There is a discount for military personnel. Note that the train runs on the LEFT side of the tracks. Wait at the platform that says "trains from Chicago" NOT the platform that says "trains to Chicago." If the ticket agent is on duty (the ticket house is on the opposite side of the tracks from where you will be waiting), there is an extra $3 charge to buy a ticket on the train. If there is no ticket agent on duty, there is no extra fee to pay on the train.

Bus and train schedules are in the Related Links below. Note that you will be boarding the train at the Davis Street Evanston station.

Donna
Pennie and Piper...thanks so much for the info. My husband and daughter were able to book shuttle and spend the same that it would cost me to take it...wow over 100$ for the shuttle round trip to our hotel. Piper..I fly in Weds but would have loved to travel with you. Thanks for the tip below. I will look into the link and see how far it is from my hotel to the train station. I am so excited to head out there and see my daughter. Never been away from her for more than a day so the last 2 1/2 months have been difficult.
