Loving A Sailor
Loving a sailor is not always gay,
And loving him is a high price to pay,
It's mostly loving with nothing to hold,
It's being young yet feeling so old.

It's having him whispering his love to you,
It's whispering back that you love him too,
Then comes a kiss, a promise of love,
Knowing you are watched, and approved from above.

Reluctantly, painfully letting him go,
While you are dying inside wanting him so.
Watching him leave with your eyes full of tears,
Standing alone with your hopes, dreams and fears.

It's sending a letter with the stamp upside down,
to a faraway love in a faraway town,
It's going to church to kneel and to pray,
And really meaning the things you say.

And though you know he is faraway,
You keep on loving him more each day.
Being in love will merit your dreams,
With thoughts of heaven where lovelight gleams.

Days go by and no mail for a spell,
You wait for word to hear that he is well,
Then the letter arrives and your given to joy,
You're like a small child with a shining new toy.

With fingers that tremble and heart beating fast,
You tear it open and read it so fast.
Yes, he's well and misses you so,
And it filled with the love you wanted to know.

Weeks are a month and months a year,
You're awaiting the day you will have no fear,
Time passes slowly yet its gone very fast,
You're barely aware it is here till it is past.

Yes, loving a sailor brings bitterness and tears,
loneliness, sadness ,and despondent years,
Loving a sailor really isn't much fun,
But it's well worth the price when his time is done.

Remember he's thinking of you everyday,
He's sad and lonely for being away.
So love him and miss him and try to be braver,
and always be proud of loving a sailor.

OK. I just got a real long letter....kind of a diary style! Looks like he wrote a little every night.Sounds like our usernames are making the rounds. I'm so excited....
RobsProudMom....If your last name starts with a "C". He told my son that he's very glad you're on here. Some of the other recruits recognized the names, also.
He sounded more like himself in this letter...but I have to type my favorite thing he wrote....will make all of us proud..
"The division is getting closer in many ways...the strong are starting to help the weak and I think within the next week we'll be good."
He wrote about many other things like having more clothes in the Navy than he owned in his lifetime....and they got their dog tags.......how everyone is really ticked off at the ones that cut the phone call short..... they had their first bigger academic test and if the whole division averaged a 4.0 they got to carry a special flag for PIR. If I understood correctly, there are flags you can earn during BC that are carried at graduation... but they missed it by .02 points. BUMMER! He said everyone knows their past the half way mark and are just counting the days. Hope mail comes for you all!

I thought Battle Stations was 12 or 16 hours? Is it 24? Yikes!
Carolinagirl - my son is staying in GL for A School. He will be an EN(Enginner). Is yours? What is his job? I can't remember everyones jobs..I was writing my son today trying jot down everything and add more user names since they are chatting about us. He did laugh in one of his letters..something like 'wow, mom learning a lot from N4M's...sometime you know more than me" :) So cute.

Is Battlestations a 24 hour test? So does that mean they start on the 29th but don't finish until the 30th????
Comment by tladams38 on June 9, 2010 at 7:58pm
What a sad story. tmasters...I had read that they make the "I'm a sailor" call the afternoon of battle stations so I would assume the 29th as well.

No letter for me either. Just got back in town. Hopefully tomorrow. Fabnoble, you think the thought of your son ironing cracks you up, my son is the one who is doing the laundry for the division. That's really funny! I'm sure there are some good stories in there somewhere.Tmasters - is your son staying in GL for A school? What will his job be?

No letter for me either. Mine usually don't come this early. Starting tomorrow though...watch out mail lady :)! Thanks for the updates ladies, I love hearing everything. My son told me about the uniforms during our call and about lots of guys being sick. He didn't say anything about the poor boy who lost his father. Wow, I am so sorry to hear this. What a strong young man for staying. So if battle stations are two days before graduation (6/29) Do we get our "I'm a Sailor" call that day too?

fabnoble: No mail for me either...seems like I have been getting it on Thursdays. Trying not to set my self up for disappointment tomorrow..Gosh this is so hard!!
Group: Any rumors of another call?
Also, meant to tell you that when my son called last week, he said he had a cold, but wasnt going to do anything about it, didnt want to miss any days. Then he mentioned that one of the boy's father passed away, and he chose not to go home so he could finish. Anybody else hear about that? God bless him and his family.

Well my son sounds really good. He said on phone call day they lost a minute every time someone talked. He said apparently some of the guys don't understand what no talking outside the ship means. He was pretty peaved about that. He said they are scheduled to run battle stations 2 days before graduation. He's sick of folding clothes and ironing sheets and underwear. LOL. But he's getting super excited about graduation day as am I.
