My son's PIR is 10/31/14. Would love to chat with other moms that have kids in Div 821.

KevinHMom, your funny! My son has actually been calling me pretty frequently. He just called a few hrs ago to let me know he is leaving tomo afternoon for Calif. So I am guessing once that training starts the calls won't be so frequent. He is so excited to get to the next part of his training. But I am a nervous wreck, because I know how hard it will be.
Have a great day, everyone.

Thanks Wisconsin Mom. Still haven't gotten that longer phone call from him that he promised he'd do when he picked up his phone. Pretty sure he still hasn't gotten his phone because when I called it last night it went right into voicemail telling me that the phone was not on. Believe me, if he had his phone, it would be ON!! LOL. I did finally get bright and leave him a message Monday morning on FB. I got a 1 line message back saying that he is having a great time so far in Florida, but that was it. And as you said, it is not like I expect him to call me daily or anything, but a little communication would be nice. :) Pay phone....carrier pigeon....anything.

KevinHMom- don't be jealous. Soon our GL boys will be off to Buds in CA (fingers crossed!) and then it will be like that for us...no contact for long periods of time. And, I had to send my son a guilt message via FB because the little stinker didnt call or text a simple 'hello' for 3 days. I told him I'm not always gonna expect a text or call every couple days but once in a while to hear from him w/o having to prod him would be nice. He's too busy enjoying life after boot camp. From what my son tells me, he is really loving the little freedom they have been given and learning the in's and out's of Chicago city life-and away from mom and dad's watchful eyes....

Haven't heard from my son since the brief phone call to tell me he arrived safely in Pensacola and gave me address to send phone and ipod. This is like bootcamp all over again. I am a little jealous of everyone else that gets to have contact in one way or another with your sailors. Happy for you, of course, just a bit jealous also. LOL.

You are so lucky Navymom that you live so close !! Since he is staying in GL till Jan, hopefully you will have many more opportunities to see him! I'm mailing my son his cell once he gives me his address, he should have moved across the street Tuesday. Can't wait till I can talk to him more often.

I did meet a few of you at PIR also! It was great putting a face to a name. I find this separation harder than the boot camp one. I had a date that I would see him again, something to look forward too. We couldn't wait in Great Lakes until he boarded the plane - he needed medical release, but got it - and should be in FL training by now. Just waiting for the new address so I can mail him his "stuff". Grateful that they can have phones and computers at A school. So much more immediate than waiting for the week turn around for written mail !!! I am sure other moms/dads/relatives will notice that when we saw and hung out with our new sailors we glimpsed the men we always knew they were on the inside, but are now proud to show on the outside. It was an amazing trip and well worth the 26 hours of driving too and from Great Lakes.

got a call last night from my son. He arrived safe and sound in Pensacola and is ready to start the next step in his training. He gave us his new address and had a list of stuff he wanted sent to him.
Anyone else have a son that went to Pensacola?
