I am frustrated over this. My 20 year old daughter, who has never suffered from anxiety gets marked with anxiety and depression over an episode of not being able to breathe. No history of asthma. It was hot and humid in her compartment and the A/C was broken. Wearing layers of clothing.( bra, skivvies, PT shirt, shorts and sweats. - NWU's were at tailors having names put on them). We are from Texas. It is dry here. So, yes, she is having to adjust to the climate and can't catch her breath, in turn starting to panic a little. After taking her to Medical, she is taken to the Psychiatrist. Who asks her if she is feeling a little homesick. She responds, yes, a little but was okay. Not depressed or suicidal. They have coded her as 2311 ( Mental Health/ Suicidal) and have separated her to Ship 5 waiting for discharge papers to send her home with a RE3 code. Unable to re enlist. She said there are many girls in Ship 5 with the same problem. She is very upset. Confused as she had made this her career choice ( sold car, quit job, gave up apartment) . Now, starting all over again.  They have made her doubt herself and now she is confused on whether she was a right fit for the Navy.

I am very upset that the Navy would do this to so many fine, willing young men and women. Her recruiter  cannot believe this would happen to her. She was the top of his recruits. Unbelievable. I am reading so many horror stories ... from over enlistment, to kids dying of pneumonia in Ship 5. My daughter said there are so many people getting sick. She has been there for 2 weeks already and is starting on her third week.

I don't know If there is anything  that can be done.

Dakota's Mom,

Please look at all the info on this site. Also join Facebook SHIP 5 SEPS. That group is an incredible resource AND support.

My heart goes out to you and my arms encircle you.

A11rightythen,

I am so sorry for what your daughter is going through. My daughter made it home June 16th. I am happy to have her here. She is in a funk now,  still cannot seem to figure out what to do.

It sounds like your girl is being put through the ringer. I hope she is getting better. Hopefully she was able to make her appointment with legal. If she did, she should be home within a week or so. Calling legal may get you some information if your daughter signed a waiver giving them permission to talk to you about her case. If she didn't, they will have her call you and let you know what is going on.

Hang in there and she should be home soon. Hugs & Prayers -
