My son called Saturday and had no longer gotten the words " Hi Mom" out when someone in the background told him to get off the phone, and that he wasn't authorized to be on then. Did anyone get a call??

It does feel like jail at times. There are a few phones that don't work well and haven't for a long time. My son called me on one, hung up and tried again and the next one was just as bad. I know it's so frustrating.

I'm sorry. That must be so frustrating.

I do feel like he's being punished, and I thought they were supposed to get to call on the weekends. Today is his birthday, and I just wish I could talk to him.

Thank you!! I hope he calls today too!! I don't even want to think about them not being home in a month! I'm sure they will be. How awful if they aren't home by the time they would have been graduating!

I've seen many who get home after their PIR dates and see their division walk by headed for PIR and it's very hard. My son went to ship 5 only a few days into bootcamp, so he was home well before his PIR date. It's the ones who go to ship 5 several weeks in that sometimes are there past their PIR dates. :(

I hope he'll be home in time for his birthday. How old will he be? They usually spend about 30 days or so in ship 5, so he COULD be home in time. I don't know if things are slowed down with the shutdown, though.

Mine was 19 yesterday. No call, he still has a few days before he's supposed to talk to legal and I haven't gotten to ask about an appeal either. What is the typical timeframe after they talk to legal? What steps are after legal?

I'm sorry your son was in SEPS on his b'day. That sucks. Mine didn't appeal, so he went home about 10 days after he saw legal the 2nd time. I don't know if everyone sees them twice. In my son's case, first he saw them to hear his case and to say he wasn't appealing. Then it took over a week for them to prepare his brief which has all the final info. Once they prepared his brief, he saw them again to sign it and left about a week after that. I'm not at home, but I have the dates on my calendar, so these could be off by a day or so.

Thank you!!! I hope that's the case with mine. That sounds better than waiting a month after legal. How did yours get sent home? Is it based on proximity/distance?

He was flown home to the nearest airport. Most are flown home, though some are bussed.  He was in SEPS 4 weeks all together, which is about average.

Someone told me it sounded like he was in Alpha, based on the number of guys there.

If they sent you their address, it should say Alpha or Bravo. For example, my son's address had "B-02" in it, so I knew he was in Bravo.
