OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Only to find out that he has been in medical separation for about a week.  He called again today saying he is being shipped home because he did not pass his hearing test? Recruiter said he passed at MEPS!

We live in deep South Texas and the climate and altitude is much different from the Great Lakes...don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. 

I just found this web site and learned about appeals and so forth but at what point is it too late? And what lengths do they medically go to to discover what the issue is and to help him continue on?

It is up to your son to do an appeal if he wants to.  Also if you want to talk to anyone at the base about his medical issue, he needs to sign the legal and the HIPPA paper work.  As far as when it is too late...after he signs the paper work that says he doesn't want to appeal it.

 

Not sure what you mean by what lenghts do they go medically to discover what the issue is and to help him continue on...  Once they find out he has any issues, they send him to ship 5 and start seperation process..they don't try to figure out why he has this problem, nor try to figure out if surgery will fix it...it is something that was there before he joined the USN so they send him home for treatment. 

 

Regarding him passing the test in MEPS...MEPS isn't as in depth as bootcamp...so yes there is a chance he passed his medical tests in MEPS and didn't in bootcamp. 

 

It is up to the recruiter to call whomever they would like to tell them he is being seperated, they all get a phone call when they move to ship 5...when you talk to him again, I would ask him why he didn't call to let you know.  Also ask him about the paperwork so you can talk to someone about what is wrong with him...understand if he refuses to sign the paper work for you to talk to someone on base, no one can give you any information about his issues...

I am so sorry to hear this. My son is in ship 5 too. My son went in last wed and saw legal today. He will be coming home in about ten days. Maybe your son can come home and get his ears fixed and then go back in later. You should have got your call last week if that is when he got there. Maybe there is more to it. You will have to talk with you son though to find out more until he signs a waiver to speack with legal and the medical team. You will likely get most of your answers directly from  your son though. My son also was separated for hearing loss, he tested high at Meps and was told there he could go onto any job.

 

5 weeks later we get the "call", they actually sent him out to a private hospital to have some big test done. They said they wanted to do whatever to keep him, they had hoped it was like a benign tumor and could be removed and all would be good.

That was not the case in the end, he actually could go back in, but does not want an office postion. He had hoped that after his 2 years he could change his rate to Seabee diver.

I know this is a shock to you, it was to us also. Just give him encouragement and support whatever he decides to do.
