When Ethan finished A school and came home, he bought a car and drove out to San Diego. He says the base is huge. He is quite aways from his barracks to his shop. Most of the guys in his squadron are married or are able to live off base so he didn't have anyone to ride with. Josh should have gotten or will get the name of his sponsor. He really needs to ask lots of questions. That is what the sponsor is for, to help them get squared away and know where everything is. Ethan got there on the 22nd of December and reported for duty on the 23rd. His LPO invited him to Christmas dinner, so I was happy that he wasn't alone. He has been a good source of info for Ethan. I know they have buses and taxis but not sure how easy it is to get around. I'm sure there is a way. His sponsor should be able to tell him about all that. Ethan won't be back til March sometime. Anyway that is the general time for it to be over unless it goes longer. One of my Lincoln moms has 2 sons and a son in law in the Navy and one is in Nuke school, one is on the Lincoln and the SIL is deployed. The Lincoln is going out so the SIL's ship can come home. Her daughter is pregnant so the son that is deploying feels as if he is going out so his sister can have her husband home when the baby is born. lol What ship will he be with?

His squadron is assigned to the carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. This will be the longest that he is out. He is ready to go and get it over with. He says they work 12 hours a day and they will port in some interesting places. He can't really say where though.

Josh will love San Diego! I haven't heard anyone yet say they didn't like it. lol There is a lot to do and the city takes care of the service men and women. They get discounts on lots of attractions and places to go. How long will his C school last?

Yea Josh!! Ethan leaves in a few days for at least 6 months :( they won't change their plans. Training is over and this is THE deployment. He will see the world just like his recruiter said. lol

I will hopefully be in San Diego in March to see him back home

It was so great to log in this morning and see all of you on line. Thanks, Carolyn - can you believe it took me this long to change his picture? It was so good to see your name and hear about Wes. Kim, what a great idea with showing Ethan's video. Thank God she has such a wonderful grandmother. When I sent my card to Chris last week, I asked him also to let us know what they need. My office loves to collect and ship items to all the service people. I agree we have all grown a lot in this year as well. I have been looking to see if there is a November 15 boot camp group yet and just reading all of the anxiety in messages from mothers, wives and girlfriends brings back all of the same feelings we were going through. I will be more careful, however, when I meet up with Willie's group of mothers though since I got Wade in trouble for writing me every day. LOL I still can't get over the fact that the Chief read N4M.

Ditto Tammy! I know I feel like I have matured as a Navy mom. Not hearing from our kids is still a big deal. I would talk to mine everyday if I could. I sure miss him, some days more than others and then out of the blue, I'll get a call.
Anna, I'll send you Shannon's address as soon as I get one. He left yesterday for the sandbox. When Shannon and Ethan were home in July, I made them both sit down and make a list of things they want while deployed. It was like 2 kids making out their Christmas list. lol They had to compare notes and then add things. They were so funny.

Tamme, love the smile on his face! I didn't go to Ethan's A school graduation. He said they got in a line gave them a paper, shook their hand and they left. No big hooray or anything.
I got a picture from Ethan yesterday and when I downloaded it on my computer in order to see it, it was a citation because he made Blue Jacket of the Quarter for his squadron! He can now be in the running for BJ of the year! I am so proud of him. He is doing great and likes his job but sure misses Addie. He doesn't so much miss us as much because we talk and stuff but Addie can't understand quite what's going on with the phone and we have only been able to Skype with him once when she was here. She will come to the computer and say Daddy and we watch a video of him. Now when she watches she will wave to him and blow him kisses. lol She doesn't realize that he isn't seeing her but that's ok she knows who her daddy is and loves him!
I was thinking about what all has happened in this last year! We have all been thru a lot. I someday hope to get together with you ladies again!

Finally uploaded a more current picture of Wade than his high school graduation picture. This time last year we were under the 30-day countdown to PIR.

Tammy, that is really cutting it close. Hopefully they have him slated for September. I know he's ready to get out of Great Lakes before the cold hits again. If not, we'll have to visit him when we go to Willie's boat camp graduation.

I know how you feel, Tammy. It was so hard not to be able to go to Wade's A-school graduation. It was in January and the flights, which surprised me since it was winter, were so expensive. It broke my heart when he said there were a few parents there but he said it was very, very short and they wisked him off to the airport right afterward. It worked out better for him anyway that we went to see him in Connecticut a few weeks later. Did Josh find out yet where he is going?

I am so glad we have this chain of friends to keep the prayers going. I pray for the Lord's protection for Chris and Ethan. Can't wait to hear where Josh is going. He is doing such a fantastic job. Kim, please tell Shannon how sorry I am to hear about his sister.
