Hi all! My son has been in Meridian a week, with this (week of 8/13) being his 1st week of school. He called yesterday and said he has the location of his 1st duty station already. That seems pretty quick to me. Does anyone know if this is common or not? I don't want to get my hopes up too high yet or seem like a Debbie Downer to him. Thanks for any help.
Denise - thank you for the info - his brother who's a coastie thought he might be able to come home, pick up his car and drive to Ms, like he did when he went to A school in the CG - but then he said the Navy is very different... I'm so grateful to all of you for helping me understand what goes on, the recruiters I feel mean well, but I think they are supposed to be 'vague' also. We're on 5 weeks to go before BC countdown... this is much tougher than I ever thought it would be.
Hi durrich, from all I know I believe your son will fly out Saturday morning after PIR and then have some liberty there on base in Meridian. He will be on hold there until he starts A school. He will get to go off base once he has phased up. After A school is completed he will get that 2 weeks leave to come home.
Thank you! That makes total sense. Not on either yet, but I'm working on it. I know Rockaway, grew up in Sparta (age ago) and we also live there until we moved to Pa, then found ourselves down here. I miss North Jersey!
Thank you. My other son has been in the USCG for 9 years and had 10 days off after basics before he had to report to his first duty station, Tim was told by the recruiter that everyone had 2 weeks off after PIR, my instinct is telling me they meant he would have earned 2 weeks, not gotten them....interesting how the recruiters explain things. We live in south jersey....
My son leaves for GL on 9/4 - and was told by his recruiter that his A school in Meridien doesn't start until 11/19 - since he should PIR on 11/2 - will he be able to come home for those 2 weeks or do they send him ahead to MS???? Linda
Just curious, does LS require a higher security clearance? My son is DEP for LS and he has received a call from someone doing a background check. Just wondering if this is job related or general Navy background check.
Hi there everyone! My son ships out Dec 5th and after bootcamp will be moved to LS school. I am very excited for his and this new venture.
