Congrats Becky M on your son coming home next month.  We were planning to go visit my son in San Diego this spring but now it looks like he is going to come home for a week before their deployment.  I think we will plan a trip to see him after his deployment.

My son said Cranking is the ghetto term for FSA which means Food Service Assistant.  He said every junior sailor has to crank for 90 days when arriving in a new duty station.  He said its not too bad it just sucks because he isn't working with his LS crew.

So what is cranking?

Anyone know where to get a Logistics Challenge Coin?  I have looked and not sure what I am looking for.

A few weeks ago my son wrote on his facebook wall that he was cranking.  I had no idea what he was talking about, I sent him a message asking if he was in trouble.  He explained that its something all Junior Sailor's have to do when their new to their duty station.  It worried me!

I believe Chris was there longer than 12 weeks for 3 reasons, #1 when he arrived he was hospitalized with pneumonia, #2 he lost a few days having his wisdom teeth removed and 3rd the school closed for a week or so during Christmas.  But is is self paced and better to take your time because I'm not sure how many times you can test if you fail.

We never visited either but Chris was able to come home for christmas seeing as tho the school was closed:)

Mamabeans -  my son was there for LS school back in October.  He was there for 7 weeks although I believe it took him alittle over 6 weeks to finish.  It was my understanding that it was kinda self paced.  Some of the other Sailors he was with were there longer than him.

Tiffany - We never visited Meridian while our son was there.  I new of one set of parents that were able to go visit over the holiday.  There was also another father that was a truck driver and past through, he was able to meet his son for dinner.  It almost didn't happen because his son had trouble finding a liberty buddy on short notice.

My son had said that there is a small airport on base, one or two flights a day.  Good luck to you.

I'm traveling to Meridian to visit my sailor and its turning out to be more complicated than i thought. Has anyone here ever traveled to the Meridian navy base??

The 16 week LS school in Mississippi... can he work really hard and progress through it quicker or will it take 16 weeks?
