Sam, I don't have a clue about the hotel on that base. When Chris came back from deployment he had to stay at the hotel on his base and they made him pay for it (what's wrong with that picture?) And while still on leave he had to go back to base just to check in (or something) and had to pay again.......totalling almost $300. So make sure you double check on the "free" thing before you get surprised. But even if you have to pay, you're still going to see your hubby :)

lynda- he would like to go to virginia cuz its closest to home and i have a cousin there whose husband has been navy for 18 yrs. it would be nice to be there, but we go where they tell us i guess.

just bought a plane ticket to go see him oct 1-4. he'll be a green dot at that point so he can stay overnight with me finally!! has anyone ever stayed at the "hotel" thing they have right on base there? he said that they have one for family and stuff and its free.

thanks for all the info! PIR was wonderful, but only got to spend 7 hours with him cuz he was a grad-n-go. i met him at the airport in the morning and gave him his bag to take with him to school so i got to spend a little more time with him there. i have talked to him everyday since then and its sooo much better than BC!!! they said he might be able to come home for liberty this weekend cuz its labor day weekend but im not sure. they said he wouldnt be stationed overseas his first term because he is married and has me as his dependent, so thats good news. he also said they offer night classes so hes gonna do those so he can finish as soon as possible. this is all the info i got from him so far.

Hi Sam and welcome! I agree with Juli, they really aren't willing to share a whole lot of info LOL. But Chris did tell me that you can get out of A school early if you try hard, I think Chris was there 12 weeks because he actually got leave to come home for Christmas (they closed the school but not everyone got leave) and he went thru BC with pneumonia (sp?) and was in the hospital for a few days. Anyway, I'm not sure if there is a number of weeks where they have to stay or if (for example) you can get it done in 6 weeks, you go on to your next station. Chris knew a couple of weeks before he finished where he was going next. He is on an air base in Jacksonville, FL and loves his job :) Next month will be 3 years for him, time sure does fly by.....
Make sure you bring a LARGE supply of tissues to PIR, it was one of the most wonderful things I have ever experienced.

hi everyone!! new to the group!! my name is samantha (sam) and my husband is finishing up his last couple of days at BC. PIR 8/27. we are leaving thursday 3am from Buffalo, NY for GL. obviously his rate is LS as well and he sort of got pushed into it too but while he was in BC. he was originally aircrew and something was wrong with his eyesight i guess and it wasnt fixable with surgery. (??) so now he is LS, not too excited about it but ready to get started. Tonight is battlestations for him so i know this is the final step of him officially becoming a sailor! im so excited.

now i read all of you comments and found out that a-school is self taught and he could finish early? is that for everyone or only if you work hard enough? when do you find out where you will get stationed? what are the chances that he will get ship duty? we are still newlyweds and got married 2 weeks before he left for BC so i'd like to spend at least a little time with my hubby. thanks! nice to meet all of you!

OMG I just typed like an 8 page note and hit the wrong key and erased the whole stupid thing!!!
Anyway, Hi Becky, it has been a long time sorry:(
We've had a busy summer, Daves daughter and her two little ones were here for two weeks, then I went to the beach for a week :) And yes gotta have the grandkids, they truly are a lot of fun. Chris is doing really good, how is your son?
And Kyle Melissa, Chris as well went to Meridian. I'm not sure how long they are there for before they can do non Navy things but I sent Chris his phone, clothes and computer almost right away. He thanked me for the HUGE box as he had to carry it across base with one arm, leaving the other avail for saluting LOL. But there is a mall nearby too, he said they used to chip in and take a cab once or twice a week just for something to do or something different to eat:)
He now is on an air base in Jacksonville FL and really really loves his job, last year he was in Africa for 7 months and this summer he spent a month or so in Japan for a training program. But like Becky said, it's a self taught program for the most part, the more you study, the quicker you're out of there. I wish her luck and I'm sure she'll have a lot of fun!
And Mrs McFrogdog, good luck to your daughter, start writing letters now so when she finally goes to BC she'll have lots of mail LOL (they really look forward to the mail)

We don't have the date for her Basic training yet, Becky. She meets with her recruiter on Tuesday, so hopefully we will get more info then. Thanks--Mrs Ruth McFrogdot
