Hello everyone! My hubby still isn't out of bootcamp yet but we know he will go directly to Pensacola afterward. Since it is only a few weeks away, I was wondering if there were any apartments/condos/houses that will allows me to rent for a few months at a time. He is only going to be there for 3 months if all goes well, and I was told that I could not move into marital housing with him if his stay there was shorter than a certain period of time- in which case only 3 months would not qualify? Is this true? And if it is, where can I stay while he is there? Thanks

Most of the apartments around here do honor the Military clause which states that when you get your orders you can break your lease. Most just require 30 days notice. So even if you sign a 12 month lease (which are usually cheaper than short term leases) then you can get out of it whenever he does get his official orders to move. Just make sure that that is in your lease and you should be good.

Governor's Gate Apartments is AWESOME. We moved in here a month ago and I absolutely love it! It's about a 20 minute drive from the base but it's not terrible at all. Rooms are big and the pool is wonderful :)
THANKS SO MUCH! I appreciate the info. I'll look into them. Any other places that you know of that are closer to the base maybe? Anything would be helpful. I feel a bit more relieved...Thanks again.
What's the rent like there? I'm looking into possibly moving down while my husband is in school.
We pay $825 a month. I looked a couple other places and they seemed comparable but definitely check around.
I've been looking around myself and am currently making a list to send with one of my hubby's letters (governor's gate, and fairfield...are on it). They look promising! I don't need much space- I have no kids or pets, so I should be able to get a relatively affordable place. Thanks again for all of the advice!
That's true about the more affordable rent. I failed to mention we were in a 2 bedroom because we have a 2 year old. So you should probably be able to do pretty well if you're just looking for a one bedroom. They seemed considerably cheaper.
We live at Fairfield Lakes and are crazy about it! They honor the military clause and it's 12 min away from NATTC.{The training section of NAS} I would recommend there just because we love it.
I'm moving hopefully at the end of May...which neighborhoods would you recommend to stay away from? jonwife...who do you rent your house from? We have a dog...thanks!
Stay away from places that are in warrington like off of warrington road. It's really close to the base but it's super ghetto out there. Im actually from Pensacola, born and raised, and i don't even like to drive through that area at night. Also, avoid most of the places on Fairfield Dr. They're cheap for a reason. Do NOT move into Stoddard Place apartments either. That place is CRAZY. It looks nice on the outside and it's really close to base, but i've heard so many horror stories. Some lady got her FINGERS cut off out there.. and my friend got the wheels stolen off of her car, they left her car sitting on bricks out there. There are some really nice apartments next to the navy hospital on hwy 98.I can't remember the name of them though. If i were moving there, I would stay on the east side of town near davis hwy or olive road. It's a 20 minute drive but the area is nice and the schools are good also. There's also some really nice gated apartments called marcus pointe grande apartments that are about 10 - 15 minutes from base. If you're planning on getting a job in customer service, there's a place called West Corp that's right by those apartments (like two mins away) that's always hiring.
We just moved in our place last week... Its pretty nice. Its 695 a month you can sign a 12 month and get out with orders... We have one 6 yr old and one 6 month old puppy. Were in a very nice area! Helpful people and its duplex style so noone above or below you just a neighbor next door. Robins Place. You should check them out a girl from on here gave us the info. The neighborhood has everything were about 15 to 20 min from base.
That actually sounds nice/affordable bulldogmamma. I think I might have to take a weekend off and go up to Pensacola myself before he goes up there. I live in FL but i've never actually been up to that area, so I'm looking forward to it. How is the ambiance?
