For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

STA-21 is a fantastic program. If a sailor is not picked up their first go. Please try again it is not uncommon for some one to have to apply for 2-4 times. In the mean time have them take a few online classes its looks good on their application.

You are welcome. If your son is applying for Nuke Officer, his chances of being selected are better than other communities. Last year, of 37 qualified nuke candidates, 35 were picked up! I would ask Gamecock at www.nukeworker.com to look at your son's personal statement. STA-21 is an incredible program and well worth the effort. Good luck!

So happy to have found this group! Chris, thank you for getting it started.
My son is in the process of applying for the STA21. He just sent me a copy of his personal statement to look over and I didn't quite know what to look for so my search directed me to this. I have read all 14 pages of messages plus whatever I found on the military site but I'm still at a loss about whether his statement would make the grade. :)
He's currently at SC, set to graduate from Power School at the end of this month. He had 2 years of college courses from the University of California, Irvine. Being a mom of a nuke baby is hard enough; but worrying about whether he makes it to the STA-21 is just as terrifying, it seems!
But I'm glad you are here and I look forward to becoming part of the family. Wish my kid luck? (He told me that during the orientation for the STA21 at GC, there were 300 nukes who attended--whew!)

This weekend my son said he has his orders. He "detaches" on Feb.3. I guess that means he doesn't have to go to work(or report to previous command.)I think all of his paperwork is in order. He can use that time to get things together, put stuff in storage, and get to Rhode Island by the 19th! He's driving his car to RI......and then to North Carolina State University.

No matter where our kids are, or what they are doing, we never stop worrying, do we?!?!?!?! I'm glad your son is ok too, Dolphin! Back when my son was in "A" School, he was a passenger in a car that was rear-ended by a drunk driver. All of the sailors were ok, thankfully. Scary, though.
I would think we'd all be hearing some finalized definite STA-21 plans pretty soon!
