The right thing, Normally results are out in Oct the 2010 results were out in NOV because the navy didn't know what there budget would be and could not spend money (give the STA-21 go ahead) with out those numbers. This year they came out in Oct, with about 45% less in the program then in previous years (because of fiscal cut backs).

I know the DB got his application in the middle of May. They needed some notarized copy of something which would have made his package incomplete, he was able to correct that.

Thanks Carol,
I think the June 1 date stuck in my head because his ship deployed that date so that meant everything was escalated and he had to his interviews and prepare his package early before the ship deployed.

Mary - glad to hear your son is working on beefing up his credits - good luck to him this time around!
Here is what the sta-21 page said in the faq about deadline -

Q: When is the earliest/latest that I can submit my application?
A: Complete and qualified applications (must include ACT/SAT scores) can be submitted as early as possible, but not later than 1 July. Personnel submitting applications early will have an advantage over those submitting late, because they will be able to review for any discrepancies, and will have sufficient time to correct their discrepancies

I thought the packages were due by June 1st but additions to the application were allowed up to July 1st.

Our son did not make it this round but happy to hear that as a result he enrolled at the University where his command is to beef up his credits for the next application :-)

I will be following the stories of the new selectees with great interest.

Hi - the application is due by July 1st ( or is it end of June?) and the results are announced Oct/Nov. There is a good page to check out- https://www.sta-21.navy.mil/ read through the fleet brief - explains the process for you.
Good luck to your Sailor!

If my nuke sailor is just filling out his application for STA-21 now, when do you think his expected start date would be, if accepted? Do the applicants hear only once per year...in Oct or Nov? Or are there rolling start dates? Obviously, I am new to this site....but glad you are here!

Carol, He owns home in VaBeach so will most likely stay there and go to Old Dominion. We would have loved for them to come home to Texas for three years at A&M or UT, but it's not very practical or cost effective. Currently an IS1, as a core selectee, he'll get the chance to select his officer service area his senior year.

granjanr, his first choice is Oregon State University - We had checked out their Nuclear program prior to Aaron deciding to join the Navy. Great program and closer to home ! Plus we love the OR coast. how about your son?
