Can anyone tell me where I would find information about when and if we can visit our son while after he graduates from GL BC and gets settled into SD for A school? We have a vacation coming and would love to spend it with/around him!

I would like to know the answer to that too! My son is in A school now and graduates on June 25 I believe. If he isn't able to come home then I would like to go there but I don't know what will happen or when we will find out.

If you find out anything, please let me know. :)  I will do the same.

I have visited my daughter a couple of times. You will want to give them a little time to get adjusted and to phase up so they will have more time to spend with you. You will be able to e-mail and talk to them on the phone and gauge when they think might be best. We went out about 3-4 weeks after she headed there. She was Phase 2 by then. There are a bunch of places to stay around the base where A School is. Practically across the street is a Homewood Suites (Liberty Station). There is a Holiday Inn, Best Western and a bunch of other places. Look on Harbor Drive close to Nimitz Blvd. I can highly recommend the Best Western Island Palms on Shelter Island. We stayed there and enjoyed it thoroughly and it is a quick drive over to the Starbucks across from the base (that was our meeting place and still is!). Also all of these places are a very quick drive to the airport. It is quite easy to get downtown on Harbor Drive. There are hotels on Harbor Island as well although it is right across the street from the airport. Sea World is a 10 minute drive away as are Mission Beach, Sunset Cliffs and a ton of other stuff.

My daughter got married this weekend in La Jolla which is about a 20-25 minute drive north from base. We had no problem getting her back and forth since she had class on Thursday and Friday before the Saturday wedding. It is just a wonderful place to spend time and seeing them isn't really that hard as they can just walk across the street to the Starbucks to meet up with you.

BrownSandy, thank you! We will be getting there the end of her first week. How much do you think we might get to him?
