I just found this and thought it was cute...

My sailor.Submariner

I love My Sailor so deeply and true

He is my Husband, my Friend and a Daddy too

He chose his fate when signed that line

To become a Submariner and serve his time

As the Submarine is prepped and the workday ends

He comes home to tell me, "It is that time again"

The night before "The Boat" gets underway

We prepare ourselves for that dreaded day

He Packs his sea bag so snug and tight

For it will be time to leave at dawn's early light

With his sea bag across his shoulder

and the tears in his eyes we know it is time for all the goodbyes

My Sailor and his crew are running silent and deep

Protecting our freedom while awake or asleep

For the beautiful flag flies freely in the wind

My sailor will proudly salute it until the very end

@Casie - sounds like your hubby's doing a sea trial or something...if on a boomer or GN depending on your FRG/Command, you may have the homecoming you're thinking of after an actual 3 month deployment (or "underway" as others sometime say)  This is my 2nd deployment on a GN and we had a very nice homecoming for the first one..there was no going down to the pier etc,...just we were there with bells on as they all stepped off the buses.  And our 3 year ran up to daddy in complete excitement.

As far as the dress whites, etc...best bet is to go with what your husband says, he may have special instructions from his division, etc that he was told he needs them for a reason, better save than sorry.  hope that helps some :)

Okay, so my husband got moved to the USS Louisiana... Anyone on that sub? Also, can anyone tell me about Jackson Park at Bangor?

Does anyone have a hubby on USS Ohio 726?

@Casey Boomers very rarely have the whole homecoming thing that you are describing. Fast attacks do. Your husband will call you when he is ready to go. I know in Ga we were not even allowed down to the pier where the boats pulled in :/ In Ct we could go down and watch the boat pull up and everything. With your husband being a nuke he will be one of the very last off anyway and you dont want to wait for that. So we come when he calls since sitting outside for god knows how long with 2 kids does not appeal to me.

Me personally I would go ahead an have his patches sewn on in case he does need them and you will end up having to do it anyway once he gets back.

Samiam1290, communication depends on a few things. Will he be on a boomer or a fast attack? If he is on a boomer they dont send a lot of emails because of mission status. My friends on boomers are lucky to get 1-2 emails a month But boomers are only gone for 3ish months at a time. Fast attacks are gone for 6ish months and communication depends on location, mission, and your husband. We had many underways that were blacked out, which is zero communication. Some guys just dont like to email. My husband tried to email daily. They usually consisted of I love you and the kids, gotta go. lol.  But at least it was an email. They dont get sent like regular emails either. Mine always came in clumps of 3 or 4 because they only upload every so often.

Money, yes sub guys make extra, at first it is not much (google sub pay) but as he progresses it adds up. Nukes get a pretty good deal. If he makes it through nuke school he will make E-4 immediately and can pickup E-5 super quick. Nukes also get AWESOME reenlistment bonus's.  Be forewarned nuke school is hard as hell. He will probably be completely stressed and lots of people dont make it through.

Rae Eli- the gateway is $55/night but is almost always totally booked. there is another hotel on base called the groton chalet, very nice rooms ranging from $85/night. the navy lodge is off base (7 dollar cab ride from there to the base, only like a 3 minute drive). the rooms at the lodge are $75/night and are muuch bigger than the rooms at the chalet. this is the third navy lodge Ive stayed at and it is the nicest one (by far!). the rooms are very big and include a mini kitchen. we had a room with one queen bed, a sofa (pull out bed), kitchen with stove top, microwave, fridge, and pots and pans to cook with. it worked well for us because I was able to cook my husband a home cooked meal, something he hasn't had since April. while I was in town I spent 4 nights at the Lodge and one night at the Chalet. the lodge was much bigger, but both rooms are nice. I'm going back the 22nd and I'll be staying at the Chalet, just for the convenience of being on base (since we didnt have access to a vehicle). hope this helps!

Hey! My name is Jordan and I am a new Navy wife. My husband and I met when he was in Sub School in Groton CT and he has since been stationed in Kings Bay and assigned to the USS Georgia but I am still stuck in CT for a little while because of school. I would love to hear any advice or anything that anyone may have!
