Typically they are not allowed to live off base and the Navy will not pay for your move until after BESS. There are some cases where they will be granted permission to "live ashore" if there are extenuating circumstances but he would need to talk to his chain of command about that.
RaeEli, I guess that would depend on where the boat they are being assigned to happens to be at that time. One of the guys here who graduated recently and has been assigned to a boat that is home ported here, is on hold for a little while longer and will be flown to the boat when it ports elsewhere because it is currently deployed. If the boat they are assigned to happens to be in home port for a few weeks/months, they would perform duties on the boat in port, then deploy with the boat on its next scheduled deployment.
After Sub School, are submariners usually deployed after being placed at their duty location??
@Emzee, I heard they can leave, they don't have to have a liberty buddy in Groton, just has to be back if he doesn't have a blue card.
oh wow! my fiance just graduated in June. how soon are you hoping to be in Georgia?
luvinmatt- thanks so much! I don't have much to move so that shouldn't be a problem. I was just worried I couldn't live with him until he finished school. I'm happy that's not the case! :)
mmaya- he should finish up sub school in september and I'm hoping to move to GA by october after he gets settled. we're so excited! I'm glad I found someone else going to GA soon. When did he graduate boot camp?
